OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Libra on September 22nd at 6:55 pm Pacific time. Libra is a sign of balance and beauty, diplomacy and right relationship. There is a great sense of justice in this air sign as well as a dedication to peace and a true social consciousness. It is the middle sign of the zodiac and thus indicates a weighing of the opposites.

Librans often have a difficult time making decisions and will often feel much better when decisions are made with key partners or allies in their life. They don’t like to go it alone. Libra follows Virgo, so we move from a month of intensive work to a month more focused on relationships, collaborations, and pleasures.

The Full Moon of Libra occurs on September 24th. This is an immediate opportunity to deeply experience these Libran qualities. What choices need to be made in your life? What relationships need attention? Who might you ask to collaborate that would be for the good of both parties? Let choices be made that bring greater freedom and expression for everyone involved. Work to choose the noble middle path.

Pluto moves direct on September 30th. The planet that rules Power and Will begins to assert its strength. Any work that you’ve been quietly engaged in over the previous months now has a chance to move deeply, fully and powerfully into the light. As a society, we’ve excavated many issues that needed to be addressed this year. As Pluto moves forward, more healing and right use of power can begin.

On October 5th, Venus, the planet that rules Libra, moves retrograde. This could make relationship dynamics a little more complicated. We might need to review or take a breath in certain relationships. We might need to revisit past behavior or remind ourselves of what we truly value before moving forward. Or we might need downtime or more reflections with the primary partners in our lives.

October 8th brings a New Moon in Libra. This is a beautiful day to seed new intentions in all your primary relationships. Do you want to smooth out a difficult dynamic at work? Dive into a sticky subject with your mate? The New Moon energy makes the NEW possible. You can carve out new ways of relating. You can even relate to your old self in a new way.

Finally, on October 9th, Mercury moves into Scorpio. If Libra weighs things and has a hard time making decisions, Scorpio decides. Scorpio lays it on the line. You can communicate with power and clarity with Mercury in Scorpio. Just try to choose kind words. It’s easy to CUT with this combination. This may also be a time of deeper investigation into any area of your life. We can get tenacious, dive in and only re-emerge when the mystery or problem is solved.

Overall, this is a month to invest in creating a deeper peace in your life. Invest in relationships. Invest in peaceful gatherings. Invest in the right treatment of our fellow humans. Make choices that bring greater light and beauty to your home or work.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: If you’re going after a new job or a promotion, circle this day on your calendar: September 30th. On this day, Pluto moves direct. Pluto is all about depth, strength, wealth, and power. If you’ve been “just kinda” job hunting—looking casually here and there, but not searching seriously—this day signals a big shift. You might notice yourself feeling more intense about your job hunt. You’ll feel the urge to hire a career advisor, Google until the wee hours of the night, make lists of ideal companies, start applying for positions, and really get things moving. The time for wishy-washy action is over. It’s time to go deep.

Pluto represents the God of the Underworld. In Greek mythology, he’s called Hades. Pluto/Hades calls you to go deep below the surface, dive into your subconscious, and discover who you really are and what you really want to do with your life. Pluto can sometimes dredge up uncomfortable emotions, too—despair about the state of the world, for example. Here are some suggestions on how to stay optimistic even when the world feels crazy and broken.

And here’s another important date for job-hunters: October 5th. On this date, Venus moves retrograde. This can sometimes make the relationships in our lives feel a little “complicated.” People might be tense and edgy on this day—not as loving and generous as they’d normally be. For instance, October 5th is probably not the best day to ask a friend for a big favor—like, “Could you introduce me to the hiring manager at your company?” Tread carefully with your relationships today. Don’t make any big moves or big requests. Wait a day or two until Venus is back on track… and then go for it.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: The Sun moves into Libra on September 22nd, which means we’ve got thirty days of strong Libra energy. It’s all about diplomacy, harmonious teamwork, and collaboration. Overall, there’s a win-win feeling in the air. It’s a great time to set new partnerships into motion.

If you work at a physical therapy clinic, for example, this is a great time to reach out to a local surgeon’s office and strike up a mutually beneficial partnership. Maybe your two businesses could collaborate to lead a “How To Recover Faster After Surgery” workshop for patients. Reach out and buddy up!

While we’re discussing partnerships, of course, we all know that “group projects” aren’t always sunbeams and rainbows. They come with some drawbacks, too. Sometimes, there’s a “too many cooks in the kitchen” atmosphere and nobody can agree on anything. Other times, it’s just too difficult to pick a date and time when everyone’s available for a meeting. All those emails pinging back and forth, no forward momentum, just lots of stalling. Ugh!

Fortunately, on October 9th, Mercury moves into Scorpio. This is one of those days when decisions get made quickly. There’s a just do it feeling in the air. Meetings get scheduled. Contracts get signed. Tasks get finished. People tend to be decisive and eager to move forward. Take advantage of this energy! Just be sure to communicate with care. For instance, don’t send a text saying “Are you done with the proposal yet?” because your tone might come across as rude and rushed, even if that’s not your intent. Brevity is awesome. Just make sure you’re infusing plenty of respect into your communication, too. Interesting reading: How to avoid harsh-sounding emails.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: On October 8th, we’ve got the New Moon in Libra. The New Moon always invites us to make new wishes—and Libra is all about balance, harmony, and healthy partnerships.

On the night of October 8th, take a moment to put down your smartphone, gaze up at the sky, and think about the partnerships in your life. The mentor who believed in you, back when you barely believed in yourself. The graphic designer who works hard to make your website look great. The virtual assistant who keeps your business humming smoothly.

Take a moment of gratitude for each person who’s involved with your business. Ask yourself, “How could I let this person know that I appreciate them?” and “How could I breathe new life into this relationship?”

Maybe it’s time to send flowers to your hardworking intern, or plan a spa day for your team to say, “You work hard every week. I really appreciate you.” Put some fresh energy towards your business relationships rather than taking people for granted. Investing in relationships always pays off in so many ways!

The New Moon in Libra is also an ideal moment to dream about new relationships and new partnerships. Is there a sponsor, investor, mentor, client, or someone else you’ve been yearning to work with? Write down their name. Make a wish on the New Moon… then spend the next thirty days working to make your wish come true!

And while we’re on the subject of business relationships… how strong is your professional network these days? Do you have a tribe of people who like you, know you, respect you, and would happily open doors for you? Or do you feel like most people just ignore your emails and texts? If you want to strengthen the relationships in your life, read this workbook on how to build great connections. Or visit my friend Sherry’s website for great tips on how to say “thank you” and “I’m grateful you’re part of my life” in hundreds of creative ways.

FAMOUS LIBRANS

Librans tend to be peace-loving, steady, balanced, calm, and masterful at building relationships. Typically, they prefer working in a team—or with a partner or coach—rather than being totally alone.

Serena Williams. She’s a mom and one of the greatest athletes in history. How she manages to keep things in balance… is a mystery. It must be her Libra magic!

Will Smith. An A-list celeb with a reputation for being friendly, likeable, generous, and focused on family and relationships. Classic Libra traits.

Kim Kardashian West. With 100 million Instagram followers, this is a woman who definitely knows how to spark relationships with people all over the world.

Snoop Dogg. A rapper who builds strong, loyal relationships—often, in surprising places! Like that time he hosted a TV cooking competition show with Martha Stewart. An unlikely duo… and yet it totally works!

OVERALL, THIS IS A GREAT MONTH FOR…

• Working harmoniously with others.

• Creating new partnerships, new collaborations, and new teams.

• Celebrating and deepening the relationships in your life—thank you cards, brunch with friends, an annual retreat with your business team.

• Any projects related to justice, balance, peace, love, bridging differences, coming together as one human race.

• Assessing the relationships in your life—both personal and professional—and determining which ones should stay, which should go, and which should be reinvented.

Your Career Forecast: August / September 2018

Ellen Fondiler | Your Career Forecast: August / September 2018

I work as a career and business strategist. But my secret passion is… astrology!

About once a month, I post an overview of what’s happening in the cosmos and how it might influence your career. It’s called Your Career Forecast.

Whether you’re job-hunting, running your own business, or wondering about the ideal time to ask for a raise or take a vacation, each Career Forecast will reveal the important dates and cosmic shifts that you need to know about.

I am joined by my dear friend, Heidi Rose Robbins, a master astrologer who will provide expert insight into what’s going on in the stars.

Let’s dive in!

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Virgo at 9:09 pm pacific time on Wednesday, August 22nd. Virgo is a practical, analytical and meticulous sign. Virgo rules over “harvest time”. We cut, sheathe, store and sell the wheat and all that takes planning and hard work. When the Sun moves into Virgo, we find ourselves diving into the task at hand and applying ourselves with great care to make sure it all runs smoothly. Virgo is also a sign of physical, emotional and mental health. We pay attention to how we are feeling and work to improve our well being. Virgo is back to school, back to work, back to business.

The Full Moon of VIRGO occurs on August 26th. We steep in the energies of devotion, purification and service. We stand in and summon health for our families, our planet and ourselves. We apply ourselves with work and determination so that we may use our gifts to their full effect.

On August 27th, after a long retrograde period, Mars finally moves direct. This is going to feel like sweet relief. If we have felt held back or lost or unmoored, Mars now utters a rallying cry and we assert ourselves in a new way. We are free to come fully forth. You might find yourself saying “FINALLY!!! It’s working! We’re moving forward!”

Mercury moves into Virgo on September 5th. This brings the power of precision in all communication. It’s a great time to edit, clean up or organize. It’s a great time to look at your work and create priorities. Be careful of criticism turned inward or outward. Look up from your work to occasionally breathe in a little perspective.

Saturn also moves direct on September 6th. We’ve had so many planets in retrograde, which can feel quiet or reflective or even thwarting. Now Saturn steps forth with purpose and determination and renewed structure. Saturn loves to make a plan and execute it. All planning will come easier now.

On September 9th, there is a New Moon in Virgo and Venus moves into Scorpio. We plant seeds of health and healing during the Virgo New Moon and we tenaciously commit to their growth under Venus in Scorpio. We devote ourselves to new good work under the Virgo New Moon and we apply ourselves deeply and fully to that work with Venus in Scorpio. Virgo and Scorpio love to do good, deep healing work together.

The very next day, September 10th, Mars moves into Aquarius. Now that it is direct, group work has a whole new momentum and fruition. New ideas abound. Group work and group projects thrive. The air is electric and we feel like we are waking up after a long sleep!

Finally, Mercury moves into Libra on September 21st. Our communicative style turns towards diplomatic and fair-minded exchange. We seek to bring peace to our relationships. We seek to bring harmony. We can all be more level-headed and kind in our communications when Mercury is in Libra.

This Virgo month should feel more directed, action oriented and satisfying in work well done. Try to enjoy the process and stop occasionally to feel the beauty of all you are accomplishing.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As we head into Virgo all of the retrogrades and eclipses that have been blocking our path begin to start clearing away piece by piece and we begin to feel movement!

As the planet Mars moves direct on August 27th, joining Mercury in Virgo, we truly feel this get-it done energy. And then Saturn joins this dynamic duo on September 6th to form a mighty trio. You will be virtually unstoppable! Write those emails! Make those coffee dates. Reach out and network and ask for informational interviews. You will soar through difficult tasks, and you’ll be astonished by how much you’re able to complete.

Not sure about the best way to reach out to people? Listen to Cathy Heller interview Jordan Harbinger, on her podcast ‘Don’t Keep Your Day Job’. Jordan Harbinger is a networking expert and has spent years studying and practicing the important act of nurturing his relationships, even when (and especially when) he’s not looking for anything in return. He shares how to genuinely reconnect with old contacts without feeling awkward, how to become a referral machine through ABG (always be giving, always be generous). It’s a great interview.

And don’t forget to make a list of your achievements. We so often ignore the fact that we need to celebrate all we have done and instead tend to lament all the things we haven’t gotten to yet. So at the end of each week, write down all your wins, both big and small.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As Heidi mentioned, on September 9th, there is a New Moon in Virgo and Venus moves into Scorpio. Virgo and Scorpio love to do deep healing work together. It is a time for us to plant seeds of health and devote ourselves to new good work.

The very next day, September 10th, Mars moves into Aquarius. Now that it is direct, group work has a whole new momentum and fruition. New ideas abound. Group work and group projects thrive. The air is electric and we feel like we are waking up after a long sleep!

A great book to read before you dive into all those meetings that group projects seem to demand is ‘The Art of the Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters’ by Priya Parker.

The book outlines ways to invigorate the way you meet and has great advice about convening, creating meaningful conversations and helping everyone at work feel more connected. It will totally change the dynamic of your group meetings and help everyone feel more productive and involved.

Parker sets forth a human-centered approach to gathering that will help everyone create meaningful, memorable experiences, large and small, for work and for play.

Drawing on her expertise as a facilitator of high-powered gatherings around the world, Parker takes us inside events of all kinds to show what works, what doesn’t, and why. She investigates a wide array of gatherings–conferences, meetings, a courtroom, a flash-mob party, an Arab-Israeli summer camp–and explains how simple, specific changes can invigorate any group experience.

The result is a book that’s both journey and guide, full of exciting ideas with real-world applications. The Art of Gathering will forever alter the way you look at your next meeting, industry conference, dinner party, and backyard barbecue–and how you host and attend them.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Mercury moves into Virgo on September 5th. It’s a great time to edit, clean up or organize and create priorities and BATCH! Last year during Virgo season, we talked about the concept of batching, a productivity tool that was developed by the amazing business coach, Melissa Cassera.

Batching means you block out a specific chunk of time—like an entire day or an entire week—and during that time, you focus exclusively on just one type of project. You could spend the entire day writing newsletters, queuing up blog posts, clearing out your inbox, sending “thank you” gifts and cards to your top clients, or sending press releases to the media. Anything you want. The key is to focus on just one type of task. Uni-tasking, not multi-tasking.

This Virgo month is a perfect time to practice batching. Use the days between September 9th (Mercury and Venus in Virgo) and September 21st(when Mercury moves into Libra) to batch, batch, batch your heart out. Block off those days to write a bunch of blog posts, record a slew of podcasts, or anything else that’s on your to-do list. Turn off social media, put your phone on silent, and dive in! Batching allows you to focus deeply, get into a creative flow-state, and churn out a ton of work in way less time than it would normally take.

Another great thing to do during this Virgo month is to look at your budget and start tracking your expenses. A great tool to check out is YNAB (You Need A Budget!!) It takes some time to set up and get into the groove, but once you do, it is easy and fun to use. I never thought I would call tracking my expenses fun, but it is surprisingly freeing!

This Virgo month should feel more directed, action oriented and satisfying in work well done. Try to enjoy the process and stop occasionally to feel the beauty of all you are accomplishing. Remember to be careful of criticism turned inward or outward. Look up from your work to occasionally breathe in a little perspective.

FAMOUS VIRGOS

Virgos are perfectionists, quick-thinking, observant, and analytical. They pay attention to detail and have a tendency to be critical both within and without. They are hard workers and go all out, with whatever they do. So it is no wonder that the following people were born under this sign:

Beyoncé

Beyoncé is a Virgo—which isn’t too surprising, given her incredible work ethic. She’s considered one of the hardest working people in show business—if not the entire world!

In this interview, she explains: “I am a Virgo to the tee! […] I pay attention to details. When I do something, I do it 100 percent. I have high expectations of myself and expect the exact same thing of everyone around me. I’ve always been that way. I am all or nothing.”

Warren Buffett

If anyone can be considered as detail oriented, it is Warren Buffett.

Buffett is an American business magnate, investor, speaker and philanthropist who serves as the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. He is considered one of the most successful investors in the world and has a net worth of $84 billion. He is famously frugal (he lives in a modest house in Nebraska and brings his lunch to work each day) and very scheduled (he stops at McDonalds every morning and orders the same thing).

That said, he is a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 99 percent of his fortune to philanthropic causes. He founded The Giving Pledge in 2009 with Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, whereby billionaires pledge to give away at least half of their fortunes. He is also active contributing to Democrat political causes and has publicly opposed the policies, actions, and statements of Donald Trump.

Mother Theresa

Mother Teresa has received a number of honors, including the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. She was canonized (recognized by the church as a saint) on 4 September 2016, and the anniversary of her death (5 September) is her feast day.

A controversial figure during her life and after her death, Mother Teresa was admired by many for her charitable work. She was praised and criticized for her opposition to abortion, and criticized for poor conditions in her houses.

Sheryl Sandberg

Sheryl Sandberg is an American technology executive, activist, and author. She is the chief operating officer (COO) of Facebook and founder of Leanin.org. In June 2012, she was elected to the board of directors by the existing board members, becoming the first woman to serve on Facebook’s board.

In 2012, she was named in the Time 100, an annual list of the most influential people in the world according to Time magazine. Sandberg is reported to be worth over $1 billion, due to her stock holdings in Facebook and other companies. She is smart, outspoken, resilient, and an advocate for women both in and outside the workplace.

OVERALL, THIS IS A GREAT MONTH FOR…

• Focus

• Practicality

• Planning

• Batching

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THE MONTH

“You’ve got to disturb the peace when you can’t get no peace.” -Aretha Franklin, Aries Sun; Cancer Moon; Scorpio Rising

While not a Virgo, we thought it apt to recognize the one and only Aretha.

When Angela Davis was in prison in 1970, Aretha paid her bail. She said: “Angela Davis must go free. Black people will be free. I’ve been locked up (for disturbing the peace in Detroit) and I know you got to disturb the peace when you can’t get no peace. Jail is hell to be in. I’m going to see her free if there is any justice in our courts, not because I believe in communism, but because she’s a Black woman and she wants freedom for Black people. I have the money; I got it from Black people- they made me financially able to have it- and I want to use it in ways that will help our people.”

This is a great reminder that it is not only what you do that counts (or even the enormous talent you may possess), but also the heart and caring that you cultivate for your family and community each and every day.

Have a fantastically productive month! Whether your career involves writing, designing, accounting, or recording your next musical masterpiece in the studio, you’ll benefit from the Virgo energy in the air. The stars and planets are completely on your side!

With love,

Ellen & Heidi

Your Career Forecast: July / August 2018

Ellen Fondiler: Your Career Forecast: July / August 2018

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Leo on July 22 at 2:01 pm pacific time. Leo, the second fire sign, brings leadership, creativity and self-expression. It is a sign of great courage and generosity. We each have the opportunity to shine forth under this solar sign.

Leo loves the question, “Who am I?” And even more than the question, Leo loves answering it through art, leadership and dramatic living. Who am I if I paint? Who am I if I dance? Who am I if I decide to become an astronaut? Who am I now? It’s good to ask this question throughout a life and not simply resign ourselves to old self-definition. It keeps us young and curious and growing.

On July 25, Mercury moves retrograde and will stay retrograde until August 18th. Interestingly, Mercury is in the sign of Leo at this time and will turn inward to reflect upon the questions of Leo even more fully. We can think of this as a pause, a few weeks of reflection before the next full flowering. We cannot always be moving unstoppably forward. We need windows of time to breathe, to slow down, and to assess. This Mercury retrograde period offers time to delve into some serious soul searching. This is not to say the momentum of life stops. But it is important to spend a little time each day, thinking more deeply about the next steps forward.

The Full Moon of Leo occurs on July 27th at 1:20 pm pacific time. Use the two days leading up to the Full Moon and the two days after to truly work with and integrate the energies of Leo. What part do you wish to play in life’s great unfolding? What is your role at this moment in your life? Are you meant to lead? Are you meant to support a larger group that is bringing change? Are you allowing your full light to shine? Are you identifying with a light greater than your own as inspiration?

On August 6th, Venus moves into the sign of Libra. Venus rules Libra and loves to work through this sign of beauty and balance. It’s a very social combination and excels at playing the host. It’s a time when we can all bring more beauty, poise and collaboration into our lives. Relationships flow with greater ease during this time. A greater diplomacy is possible and solutions can be reached that earlier felt impossible.

August 11th brings the New Moon of Leo and a Solar Eclipse. If you have planets at 18 degrees Leo, this eclipse will activate those planets strongly for the next 6 months. New Moons are as they sound — full of potential and fresh starts. Again, let us practice asking, “Who am I now?” Perhaps we don’t take the time to notice how we are growing, evolving and changing. We must always seek to know ourselves fully so we can act on and offer what we know.

Mars continues its journey retrograde from Aquarius to Capricorn on August 12th. This is a very determined and driving combination. The key with Mars retrograde is to take stock before acting. Sometimes patience or a little review is required before proceeding. If you take the necessary time of reflection, you can then use the Mars in Capricorn to build purposefully and with clarity. This combination always helps us achieve what we set out to do. Consider the possibility that the “review” time may take until the 27th when Mars moves direct.

When Mercury turns direct on the 18th, there will be a focused, clear energy of self-available to meet the sign of VIRGO as Virgo’s month begins on August 22nd. The directed, creative, generous impulse will then be ready to be put to work!

Use this month to come to know who you are in THIS moment. Express. Explore. Experiment. Be spontaneous and curious. Discover something NEW about yourself and lead with that.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As Heidi mentioned, the Sun moves into Leo on July 22nd. Leo is radiant, warm, and courageous. If you are job-hunting, this would normally be a terrific time to shake up your search by doing something bold and unexpected—something that allows your warmth and humanity to shine brightly.

However, this year there are some aspects that strongly suggest that instead of going big and bold, you go inward and use the month to organize, reflect and get yourself ready for the organized and focused Virgo season next month.

The planet Mercury goes retrograde on July 25, and will stay retrograde until August 18th. In addition, the planet Mars is retrograde until August 27th. This is probably not the best time to send out resumes or cover letters or go out on interviews. There are too many possible mishaps re: technology and communication that could take place. Plus the last weeks of summer are always slow.

Instead, think of this time as a pause, a few weeks of reflection before the next full flowering. This Mercury retrograde period offers time to delve into some serious soul searching and delve into the whole Leo-esque question, “Who am I?” and “Where do I fit in?”

This is a great time to organize your job search, update your resume and cover letters, and research new companies you may want to approach come the fall. It is also a perfect time to catch up on books and articles that you have been meaning to read. I love David Whyte’s book, Crossing the Unknown Sea. It is one of the best books that I have ever read about the meaning of work. For anyone who wants to deepen their connection to their life’s work—or find out what their life’s work is—this is the book to read.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: On August 6th, Venus moves into the sign of Libra. It’s a very social combination. Libra excels at playing the host and Venus loves being a guest in this sign. It’s a time when we can all bring more collaboration into our lives. Relationships flow with greater ease. A greater diplomacy is possible and solutions can be reached that earlier felt impossible.

This would be a great time to suggest a group offsite to gather members of your team together to brainstorm the final quarter of 2018. And since we are talking about Venus, it is a perfect time to also throw in some fun and games. Plan to go to a beautiful spot out in nature and have plenty of yummy food on hand. You can’t lose!!

You can also use the downtime of August to get everyone together to deep clean the office or redesign the workspace. Use the Marie Kondo method to get rid of all the boxes and papers and general stuff that has built up. A clean working space will do wonders for group productivity.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: There is a lot of opportunity this month to realign and re-assess the direction that your business is taking.

The Full Moon of Leo occurs on July 27th at 1:20 pm pacific time. Use the two days leading up to the Full Moon and the two days after to truly work with and integrate the energies of Leo. As Heidi noted, it’s a great time to ask yourself, “What am I here to give with all my heart?”

If you run your own business, are you truly “giving your all”—or have you been holding back? Do you treat your customers with warmth and generosity or are you doing the “bare minimum” that’s expected of you? How could you serve your audience at an even higher level? Explore these questions and without being too hard on yourself, look for ways to improve.

On the night of the full moon, spend some time filling your cup of inspiration to the brim. Watch TED Talks delivered by entrepreneurs you admire. Watch your favorite music videos on YouTube. Listen to podcasts featuring interesting business. ‘How I Built This’ is a wonderful way to learn about how innovators and entrepreneurs built their brands and movements. And on Girl Boss Radio, Sophia Amoruso interviews boundary-pushing women who talk about all the lessons they’ve learned along the way to their success.

You can also catch up on my ‘How Did You Do That?’ interview series and Heidi’s podcast, ‘The Radiance Project’. Surround yourself with examples of “role models” who are running their businesses with heart, warmth, and generosity and remind yourself, “I can absolutely do that, too.”

August 11th brings the New Moon of Leo and a Solar Eclipse. New Moons are as they sound — full of potential and fresh starts. Take the time to notice how you are growing, evolving and changing. Journal. Take a few days to retreat and go off by yourself. Start a meditation practice. The app Calm is a great way to start.

Remember that both Mars and Mercury will be in retrograde at this time, so it is important to take the necessary time for reflection. Mars will be in Capricorn, which is a combination that always helps us achieve what we set out to do. While we may not get instant gratification, once Mercury goes direct on August 18th and Mars goes direct on August 27th, there will be a focused, clear energy available to meet the sign of Virgo and you will be ready to move forward.

In the meanwhile, enjoy the waning days of summer to replenish, refresh, spend time with friends and loved ones and relish in the Leo season. After all, Leos love a good party!

FAMOUS LEOS

Leos love the limelight, which is why many of them make a career in the performing arts.

Barack Obama. President Obama represents some of the best Leo qualities. He’s confident, without being flashy. He’s comfortable in the spotlight, but not self-obsessed. He’s a caring leader, devoted to the highest good for all. Most of all, he’s driven by the idea that change begins on an individual level—with individual leadership.

Jennifer Lopez. “Jenny from the Block’ is the quintessential Leo. She clearly loves the limelight, often showing up at events in scene-stealing outfits, accompanied by very young escorts. However, her talent is what always takes front and center. She is an award-winning actress, musician, and is regarded as the most influential Latin performer in the United States.

JK Rowling. Her rags-to-riches story is lore for hundreds of millions around the world. She was a welfare mom, with nothing to lose. The entire seven books of Harry Potter came to her one-day on a long train ride and the rest is history. After untold numbers of rejections, a wise man at Bloomsbury offered her $2,250 and agreed to print 1,000 books. When Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows went on sale, it sold 15 million copies worldwide in 24 hours, Forbes magazine put Rowling second only to Oprah as the richest woman in entertainment, ahead of Martha Stewart and Madonna — and as the first person to become a billionaire by writing books.

Madonna. Referred to as the “Queen of Pop”, Madonna is known for pushing the boundaries of lyrical content in mainstream popular music, as well as visual imagery in music videos and on stage. She has also frequently reinvented both her music and image while maintaining autonomy within the recording industry. She is an extraordinarily successful businesswoman, philanthropist, won a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role in Evita (I love that movie!), and is the highest grossing solo touring artist of all time.

Mick Jagger. How can someone with this much charisma, swagger, stamina and passion for performing be anything but a Leo? Mick Jagger is acknowledged as the greatest front man ever, and has single handedly defined what it means to be the singer with a rock band, a blues band or any other kind of band during his fifty-year career.

OVERALL, THIS IS A GREAT MONTH FOR…

• Expressing

• Exploring

• Experimenting

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THE MONTH

“Of any stopping place in life, it is good to ask whether it will be a good place from which to go on as well as a good place to remain.” -Mary Catherine Bateson

This month is a time to stop, pause and take stock. Do you like what you are doing? What is your role at this moment in life? Do you want to change it? Can you move into yourself and what you offer with greater force and passion? Are you holding back?

Re-treat. Re-vitalize. Re-examine outdated beliefs.

Have an amazing month!

Your Career Forecast: June / July 2018

Ellen Fondiler | Your Career Forecast: May / June 2018

I work as a career and business strategist. But my secret passion is… astrology!

About once a month,  I post an overview of what’s happening in the cosmos and how it might influence your career. It’s called: Your Career Forecast.

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Cancer on June 21st at 3:07 am Pacific time. It is time, once again, to turn inward. Cancer asks that we get a little quieter, feel a little more, and replenish our physical, emotional and mental selves. The phrase for Cancer is: “I build a lighted house and therein dwell.” Cancer asks that we fill our house with light—our body, our home, our business.

Cancer is also the energy of the Mother and it seeks to nourish others and see them grow. This nourishing may apply to projects and businesses as well. It is resourceful and careful. It safeguards what it loves. It parents all it chooses to protect.

Mars moves retrograde on June 26th, which may amplify the need to withdraw even more. Mars usually demands action, but when it moves retrograde, there is a need to reflect and restore before any further assertion. It’s not time for a fight. It’s not a time to push through. It’s more a time for solitude and contemplation and restoration.

The Full Moon of Cancer occurs on June 27th. The moon is actually in Capricorn, but we celebrate Cancer. What do we wish to see grow? For what or whom do we feel compassion? How could we tend to them? What can we do to fill our own bodies with more light so we are a little less protected, shielded, or afraid? How do we dare risk being more vulnerable?

On June 28th, Mercury moves into Leo. This will bring a little more fire to the picture. Mercury in Leo is courageous in its expression. It has a flair for leadership and does not shy away from the spotlight. It’s willing to sound the call. It’s willing to show up. If you have something to write that requires a little bravado, do it now. You will have the capacity to express the best of yourself.

Venus moves into Virgo on July 9th. This helps us refine and improve. It’s excellent energy to edit or clean up. It is interested in everything having its right place. It helps to implement systems that improve the whole. We get healthier and more organized when Venus visits Virgo.

Finally, there is a New Moon and Solar Eclipse the evening of July 12th. We plant seeds under the New Moon. We fertilize the metaphorical egg. We whisper to the tiniest flame or idea within us and encourage it to continue to take form. We open our arms and allow our idea of family to grow. We risk being vulnerable and available to others. Our feeling sensitivity leads the way. Intuition is strong.

Overall, it’s a quieter, deeper month. Don’t let that fool you. Much is growing that will emerge next month. Much is in bud.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Whenever I see Leo energy on the calendar, I always think, “Great news for job hunters!”

On June 28th, Mercury moves into Leo. Mercury rules communication, while Leo brings self-assurance, confidence, and courage. This is an excellent combination if you’re going after a new job, a promotion, or any kind of career upgrade.

Use this day to let your community know, “I’m searching for something new!” Post your dream job description on Facebook. Post a YouTube video introducing yourself to new employers. Send a passionate cover letter and résumé to your top 5 favorite companies, even if they don’t appear to be hiring right now. You never know… a lot can change in a few weeks, and they might be hiring again soon! It doesn’t hurt to make your presence known.

Or, take a cue from the brilliant Tiffany Han, and start a 100 Rejection Letters project. Every day, wake up, have your coffee, and then reach out to someone and make a request, like “Could I send you my résumé?” or “May I ask you three questions on the phone?” or “Could I visit and take a tour of the company?” It’s OK if someone says, “No.” In fact, that’s the whole point of the project! Keep going until you’ve collected 100 Rejection Letters. Consider each rejection a badge of honor. Each one proves that you took a risk and made a gutsy request!

The magic of this project is two-fold: one, you start to get de-sensitized to rejection and it doesn’t feel so terrifying anymore, and two, not everyone will say “No.” A few people will say “Yes.” Each “Yes” can unlock doors for your career. But you won’t get a “Yes”… until you start asking!

If you love the idea of doing a 100 Rejection Letters project, and want even more inspiration, check out Tiffany Han’s podcast, and read Jia Jiang’s book, Rejection Proof. Jiang and Han share a similar message: asking won’t kill you, being rejected won’t kill you either, and incredible things happen when you reach out and ask for what you want. Tap into that Leo courage and go for it!

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Prior to Cancer, we had the month of Gemini—extroverted, chatty, sociable, a lover of people, a builder of bridges and connections. After energizing Gemini, we swing back to the other end of the spectrum. We go from social butterfly back into a restful cocoon.

And so, when the Sun moves into Cancer on June 21st, we’re invited to slow down, turn inward, and focus on recharging and refilling our tanks. This is a great time to check in with yourself and ask, “Have I been working too hard lately? Have I been burning the candle at both ends? Have I been racing around town like a maniac? Is it time to chill out for awhile?” Even if you absolutely love your job, that doesn’t mean you should be working ‘round the clock. Try to scale things back and find more balance.

For your reading list, consider reading Tim Ferriss’ bestseller, The 4-Hour Workweek. In this book, Ferriss discusses a number of different ways that you can drastically reduce the amount of time you spend at work. Less time shackled to your desk. More flexibility and freedom. And no, you don’t necessarily have to quit your job and start your own business. Ferriss shares lots of principles that apply to all kinds of professions. A very thought-provoking read!

Or, if you want to take a break from thinking about work-related matters, pick up a copy of The Little Book of Hygge. “Hygge” is a Danish word that doesn’t really have an English equivalent, but loosely, it means “cozy, peaceful, happy times at home.” Perfect for the month of Cancer! Read along and learn how to create a serene, tranquil, incredibly cozy environment at home, just like the Danes do.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Running a successful business requires passion and creativity, and also… systems! Systems for handling emails, systems for billing clients, systems for scheduling social media posts, and more. With good systems in place, you can eliminate a lot of headaches and panicky 3am moments where you bolt awake, wondering, “Did I update that webpage, or did I forget?”

Good news, because when Venus moves into Virgo on July 9th, we have a combination of loving, beautiful energies (thanks to Venus) and fantastic organizational skills (because of Virgo). It’s the perfect day to assess your current systems (or lack thereof!) and put new ones into place. The word of the day is: organize! Tidy up your desk drawers, your bookshelf, your inbox, and your administrative processes. You’ll feel refreshed, and you’ll set yourself up for smooth sailing throughout the second half of 2018.

If you’re thinking, “I am just not a systems person! My brain doesn’t work that way!”… you’re not alone! If you’re a creative, artistic, imaginative thinker—not an Excel spreadsheet person—consider reading The Right Brain Business Plan by Jennifer Lee. It’s a beautiful book with illustrated worksheets to make business planning joyful, not tedious.

Another suggestion: consider hiring a professional organizer to whip your office—and business—into shape! Sometimes, getting an outside perspective can help you to identify issues and inefficiencies that you’re not even “seeing” clearly. Hire an organizing pro to create new systems that you can maintain. Don’t you feel relieved already, just thinking about it?

FAMOUS CANCERIANS

Clever, witty, brilliant with words and lyrics, communicative, expressive, skilled at building relationships and tribes… it’s no wonder the world is filled with so many famous Geminis!

June 21st – The Sun moves into Cancer. Recharge. Fill your life with light.

June 26th – Mars moves retrograde. Another invitation to slow down. Warriors need to retreat, sometimes, not just advance.

June 27th – The Full Moon of Cancer. A beautiful day to retreat inward, spend time alone, or with loved ones.

June 28th – Mercury moves into Leo. Skillful communication and courage. Write. Share. Post. Speak up. Let the world know who you are and what you can offer!

July 9th – Venus moves into Virgo. An excellent day to assess your systems and policies at work. What needs to be tightened up, simplified, or beautified?

July 12th – New Moon and Solar Eclipse. Listen to the voice of your intuition. Set new intentions. In the upcoming month, watch these seedlings grow!

OVERALL, THIS IS A GREAT MONTH FOR…

• Turning inward, recharging, taking a mental health day, or going on a retreat.

• Working less. Finding more balance. Focusing on domestic, personal, and emotional matters rather than working ‘round the clock.

• Noticing what fills you up, what energizes you, what helps you to shine brighter. Filling your life with routines that light you up.

• Doing some organizing at home and at work, too. Creating new systems, setting things into order, creating greater peace of mind.

• Stretching yourself in new ways and taking risks to create your dream career, which doesn’t necessarily mean being “loud,” “flashy,” or “extroverted.” An quiet risk (like sending a email to invite someone to meet with you 1 on 1) is still a risk.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER…

CAREER MANTRA FOR THE MONTH

“The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.” —Sydney J. Harris

If you find yourself anxiously thinking, “I don’t have time to rest…” “I need to work faster…” or “There’s so much to catch up on, I couldn’t possibly take the weekend off…” those are the moments when you need to rest, most of all.

The month of Cancer invites us to refill ourselves rather than expending energy in thirty-seven different directions. Sit down. Put up your feet. Nestle into a pillow and refill your own cup. With a full cup, and with a refreshed mind and body, you’ll be able to do your greatest work.

Have an amazing month!

With love,

Let’s dive in!

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Gemini on May 20th at 7:15pm Pacific time. Gemini brings movement and connection. It rules communication, bridge building, and relationships. It is curious and quick, agile, and interested. It is a sign, at its best, of loving intelligence and goodwill.

When the Sun is in Gemini, we are meant to reach out and meet new people, connect with old friends and allies, and share our unique message and offerings with the world.

On May 25th, there is a beautiful trine—a 120 degree angle—between Jupiter in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces. This creates harmony between the agent of expansion and the dreamer. This is a time to dream big. It would be an amazing day to retreat—either solo or in a group—and imagine your next chapter. There is tremendous flow, grace, and ease to this transit. It welcomes depth.

The Full Moon of Gemini occurs on May 29th, the same day that Mercury moves into Gemini. This is a day of loving connection. Take some time today to think about the many people in your life and how each relationship inspires or uplifts you or how you uplift or inspire another. Recognize that every day we forge a new relationship—even if it’s with a simple, kind hello. Build bridges of love and leave connection in your wake. Mercury in Gemini is also a terrific time to write all the letters, make all the calls, and reach out to your community. Our communication speeds up with Mercury in Gemini.

On June 12th, just two weeks later, Mercury moves into Cancer. Mercury in Cancer asks that we stop, breathe, and feel. We’re invited to turn inward and quiet down. Conversation is more personal. Communication might be more about family matters and sensitive issues. It’s a deeply receptive time.

Finally on June 13th, there is a New Moon in Gemini, sparking new ideas, thoughts and plans. Venus moves into Leo on the same day, igniting our desire to express and lead. We don’t shy away from the spotlight when Venus is in Leo. We dare ourselves to lean into our lives and express what needs to be expressed.

It’s an exciting, dynamic month. We are on the move—forging relationships that fuel our message and vision.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: May 25th and May 29th are two auspicious days for anyone who’s job hunting.

On May 25th, we’ve got a trine between Jupiter in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces. This is the moment to dream BIG. It’s an excellent time to day-dream and fantasize about your next career chapter.

What do you truly want next? Do you want to pursue a new job that’s similar to your last job? Or do you want to pursue something different? With Neptune, we have a deep, watery, imaginative quality in the cosmos. Dive deep within. What does your heart really want? Curl up with a book like The Crossroads of Should and Must by Elle Luna, and let your mind wander into new possibilities.

A few days later, it’s the Full Moon of Gemini on May 29th. Gemini is the social butterfly of the Zodiac—a talkative, enthusiastic sign that loves to reach out and connect. Tap into the Gemini vibes and spend some time connecting, texting, emailing, chatting, and strengthening relationships.

The fastest way to turn an acquaintance into a strong friend? Generosity.

Instead of asking for a special favor, grant a favor. Instead of pleading for help, be the helper. If you reach out to someone and do something generous—with no strings attached—they’ll be wowed. You’ll win a true friend for life.

A few generous ideas: nominate someone for an award, offer to help out with their grant application, or introduce them to a potential client or employer. Your generosity will be rewarded in innumerable ways.

Check out this TED Talk called “The Generosity Experiment” to hear the true story of a man who decided to say “Yes” to every request for 30 days in a row, and what he learned in the process.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: The entire time of Gemini—which starts on May 20th and lasts for one month—is a beautiful time for workplace relationships. It’s all about building bridges, not walls. If there’s been some office conflict in the past, now is the time to soothe the friction and begin anew.

It’s also a great time to re-connect with people you haven’t chatted with in awhile. Invite someone from a different department to join you for a coffee break. Chat with someone in the elevator. Every human being is fascinating, and everyone has a story. You might be pleasantly surprised to discover that your co-workers are a LOT more interesting than you previously thought!

June 13th is a great day to step into a stronger leadership role. With Venus in Leo, you might feel a little bolder than usual. On this day, propose a new idea to your manager. Offer to lead a new project. Or, offer to take over a project that’s been stalling and inject new vitality into it. Take charge! For inspiration, pick up a book like Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg or a classic like How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As an entrepreneur, it can be tough to “stop working.” When 5pm rolls around, even if you’re already been working for 8 hours straight, there’s always something else to do. Another client to contact. Another email to write. Another invoice to send off—or pay. The work never ends!

On June 12th, when Mercury moves into Cancer, the Universe invites us to slow down and hop off the never-ending hamster wheel. It’s a time to rest and receive. If possible, play hooky and chill out. Catch up on laundry. Fluff your pillows. Putter around. Take a nap. Spend quiet time alone, or hang with loved ones. Remember that “work” is a big part of our lives, but it’s not the only part that matters. Taking a brief “time out” will refill your creative tank. When you’re ready, you’ll be able to return to your workload with fresh energy.

Overall, the month of Gemini is all about loving connection. Gemini energy is all about conversation, enthusiasm, wit, and nurturing relationships of all kinds.

If you run a business, this would be an especially good time to shine a spotlight on your favorite customers. Select a “customer of the month” and hand out a prize. Feature a talented client in your Instagram feed and share their story. Make people feel extra-special and extra-loved.

Gemini energy can sometimes slip into a flaky, indecisive, overwhelmed place. Think: Too many dinner party invitations, ack! Where should I go? What should I do? FOMO! To avoid getting into this state, try to keep things simple, and focus on quality over quantity. Do less—and do it with great love.

FAMOUS GEMINIS

Clever, witty, brilliant with words and lyrics, communicative, expressive, skilled at building relationships and tribes… it’s no wonder the world is filled with so many famous Geminis!

Morgan Freeman. That VOICE! Talk about communication skills. He could read the phonebook and make it sounds fascinating.

Russell Brand. A classic Gemini with lighting-speed wit. Funny, clever, expressive. The life of the party!

Amy Schumer. She’s built a career as a comedian who feels like your best girlfriend. Even better, she uses her fame and platform to give back to her community through important projects like Everytown.

The artist formerly known as Prince. RIP. He blessed us with so much art, and left us too soon.

Donald Trump. All I can say is… Ugh. However, you must admit, this is a man who never stops talking, and his words have resonated with a large portion of the American population. Trump epitomizes the dark side of Gemini energies—communication used to provoke fear, to mock, to bully, to exaggerate, and build walls instead of bridges.

OVERALL, THIS IS A GREAT MONTH FOR…

Reaching out. Connecting. Turning acquaintances into deep friends.

Using your words. Expressing yourself. Feeling especially witty and vibrant.

Being unexpectedly generous with your time, connections, and resources.

Moving quickly. Adapting to new things rapidly. Staying in a lively, productive mindset.

Improving your leadership skills. Inspiring people to join you. Building tribes.

Working to get Trump impeached. (It’s always a great month for that!)

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER…

May 20th – The Sun moves into Gemini. When Gemini rules, it’s all about building bridges and nurturing relationships.

May 25th – Jupiter trine Neptune. A dreamy, imaginative day. Explore what the next chapter of your career might be.

May 29th – The Full Moon of Gemini and Mercury moves into Gemini. Gemini powers are heightened. Communications ignite and accelerate.

June 12th – Mercury moves into Cancer. Turn towards family matters. Take the day off work, if you can, and focus on the domestic, personal side of life.

June 13th – New Moon of Gemini and Venus moves into Leo. New ideas abound. Shine. Lead from the heart. Take charge!

CAREER MANTRA FOR THE MONTH

“Be genuinely interested in everyone you meet and everyone you meet will be genuinely interested in you.” —Rasheed Ogunlaru

When it comes to your career, strong relationships are worth more than gold. More often than not, it’s a personal connection that leads to a new job, new client, book deal, investment, donation, media appearance, or whatever you happen to be seeking right now.

Be genuinely interested in the people that you meet. Be genuinely caring, generous, and helpful. This is how you’ll strengthen the fabric of your network—and unlock all kinds of doors.

With love,

Ellen & Heidi

Let’s dive in!

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Taurus on April 19th at 8:13 pm Pacific time. Taurus is a sign of manifesting beauty, taking practical action, and implementing the power of the Will.

Taurus rules the garden and under Taurus, the flowers of our lives start to grow. Seeds planted under Aries burst forth and we find ourselves surrounded by beauty. The month of Taurus is a great time to move forward slowly and steadily. We show up, do the work rhythmically, and grow. We attract resources through our sure, committed work.

Some of the slower, more fixed energy of Taurus will be activated and uplifted when Venus moves into Gemini on April 24th. Venus rules Taurus and when Venus spends time in Gemini, we connect. We relate. We write. We exchange. Gemini gets the Taurus energy involved in relationships. It’s a much quicker, moving energy than Taurus. So, we have both the rhythmic manifesting of Taurus and the curious, light energy of Gemini. Use Venus in Gemini to network, exchange information, and ask questions.

The Full Moon of Taurus occurs on April 29th. The phrase for Taurus is, “I see and when the eye is opened, all is illuminated.” Taurus is a sign of great intuition and light. Use the Full Moon time to listen deeply and to see beyond the apparent. What do you intuit about your next steps? Where is the greatest LIGHT in your life? Move towards it.

Mercury moves into Taurus on May 13th. Once Mercury moves into Taurus, we have the Sun, Venus, and Mercury all gathered in this powerful earth sign. We can communicate in a calm, steady, productive manner. We can slow down enough to appreciate all that is unfolding in our lives. We can take deliberate steps to grow.

May 15th is a big day. The planet Uranus, which spends 7-8 years in each sign, is moving into Taurus today. It has been in Aries since May of 2010. Everyone with strong Aries was woken up by this electric, improvisational energy. Now Uranus moves into Taurus. It will vivify and bring more freedom to the realm of Taurus. As Taurus rules our natural resources, there will certainly be a focus on greater sustainability and technological advances to help protect the planet.

Also on May 15th, Mars moves into Aquarius. This is the warrior energy working through the energy of the new. Mars in Aquarius is a great energy to problem-solve and think outside the box.

Finally, Venus moves into the Cancer on May 19th. Venus is what and who we love. Cancer rules the home and family. When Venus moves into Cancer, our attention can shift to the home front. We can also be extremely resourceful as we grow our work lives. Cancer is a great energy for finding and using what is available.

Let this month be one of grounded, practical growth, and unexpected pockets of beauty.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: If you’re job-hunting, there’s a ton of excellent energy in the air!

Taurus is all about surrounding yourself with beauty, enjoying sensory pleasures, and allowing the garden of your life to flourish and grow. To tap into the Taurean energy, put some plants or flowers in your workspace, play beautiful music, swirl some honey into your tea, and try to make the job-hunting process feel like a pleasurable, even hedonistic experience.

Two dates to mark down are May 13th and May 15th. On May 13th, we’ve got a combination of energies from the Sun, Venus, and Mercury. Venus rules love, Mercury rules communication. This is an excellent day to communicate from the heart. If you’re writing a cover letter, or emailing a colleague, write with sincere passion and enthusiasm. Don’t try to sound “buttoned up” or “corporate.” Let your excitement shine through.

For more writing tips, check out my workbooks, particularly the workbooks on how to write a resume and how to write a cover letter. Or sign up for a writing class like The Copy Cure and learn writing techniques from top copywriters and marketers. After all, when you’re job hunting, you’re marketing a unique, fabulous, and brilliant product: yourself!

Then, on May 15th, Uranus moves into Taurus. Uranus is a planet that’s all about serendipity and unexpected happenings. This day could bring some big surprises, especially in the realm of your surroundings (physical space, physical beauty), finances, and work. It’s the type of day when you might wake up to a completely unexpected job offer!

May 15th is also a great day to do something out of the ordinary. Text someone you normally wouldn’t. Apply for a job that feels like a bit of a stretch. Attend an event spontaneously. Be a little wilder than usual. It might pay off in a big way!

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: On April 19th, when the Sun moves into Taurus, we step into a month-long period of Taurean energy.

Aries—the sign that comes before Taurus—is all about bold, fiery trailblazing. Taurus slows things down a bit. With Taurus, we can take a deep breath, relax, and work at a slow and steady pace. We can take a little more time to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us, rather than feeling an intense need to blaze new trails and shake things up.

If you’ve already got a job, the month of Taurus is a great time to focus on sustainability. Have you been working too hard? Burning the candle at both ends? How’s your physical and mental health? On April 19th, and in the weeks that follow, try to bring things back into balance. Find a sweet, steady rhythm. Don’t push too hard. Remind yourself, “I don’t need to work nonstop. I can find a happy equilibrium.”

If you’ve got a job—but you don’t like it and you’re ready for a change—use the month of Taurus to beautify your workspace and upgrade your daily routine. Find a way to make your job feel more tolerable, maybe even enjoyable.

For starters, put flowers on your desk. Visit a website like DENY Designs.

Not only will you be purchasing some beautiful and very affordable—artwork and decor for your office, you will also be supporting the artisans that make the products. (It’s a win-win). Put a stack of inspiring books next to your computer. I love Salad for President and In the Company of Women. Take breaks more often. Stretch your legs. Eat lunch outside instead of at your desk. Take extra-good care of yourself.

All of these small habits add up and boost your mood. It’s much easier to start figuring out your next career move when you’re feeling positive and optimistic, rather than competed drained.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: When Venus moves into Gemini on April 24th, we’ve got a beautiful combination of energies. The vibe is: curious, talkative, intimate, and full of love. Use this day to give some extra attention to your personal and professional relationships.

Send a gift to your #1 client. Text a colleague to ask how they’re doing. Throw a cheese and wine party and invite a few friends over to talk about how 2018 is going so far. Gemini tends to be a very chatty sign, but try to remember to listen more than you talk.

If you’re attending or hosting an event and you need a few ice-breakers to get the party started, here’s a list of 100 interesting questions to ask the people you meet. If you need some inspiration to plan the perfect gathering, read this article about some of Barack and Michelle Obama’s legendary White House parties. Very aspirational!

Then on May 19th, Venus moves into the Cancer. If there’s a phrase that sums up this day, it would be: “beautifully resourceful.” If you’ve been feeling like you don’t have enough time, money, connections, energy, and so on, this is the perfect day to shift your attitude.

Think differently. Be resourceful. OK, maybe you’re not best friends with Ellen DeGeneres, but who are the amazing people that you do know? Maybe you can’t afford to get a membership at the hottest, buzziest coworking space in the city, but where could you work instead? Focus on the resources that you do have, rather than obsessing about everything that you don’t. You have far more creativity, support, and opportunities available than you might realize. Find what’s available and use it.

Famous Taureans:

Coretta Scott King. A civil rights activist and the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Working to change society’s mindset—and laws—requires committed, steady, patient work.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He has created a beautiful and sustainable career for himself—first as an athlete, and later as an actor and producer.

Adele. A grounded, down to earth celebrity who leads a quiet life, away from the media frenzy. She works hard, yet she takes plenty of time to step away from the spotlight and be with her family, too.

OVERALL, THIS IS A GREAT MONTH FOR…

Surrounding yourself with pleasure and beauty. Upgrading your daily routine. Beautifying your workspace.

Slowing down a bit, and find a steady, sustainable pace at work. Reasonable working hours. Less frenzied striving. Finding balance.

Connecting with people on a deep, intimate level. Nurturing relationships. Turning acquaintances into true friends.

Being resourceful and focusing on what you do have, rather than what you don’t.

CAREER MANTRA FOR THE MONTH

“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” —Marcel Proust

This month, surround yourself with experiences—and people—that bring you joy.

The happier you feel, the better your career will be. After all, it’s tough to do great work—or secure a new job, or a new client—when you’re down in the dumps. Focus on nurturing yourself like a garden with patient, steady, loving care. Allow yourself to bloom—and beautiful opportunities will be drawn to you.

Have an amazing month!

With love,

Ellen & Heidi
