Your Career Forecast: March / April 2019

Ellen Fondiler | Your Career Forecast: March / April 2019

Once a month, I join forces with my dear friend and astrologer extraordinaire, Heidi Rose Robbins to post an overview of what’s happening in the cosmos and how it might influence your career. It’s called Your Career Forecast.

Whether you’re job-hunting, running your own business, or wondering about the ideal time to ask for a raise or take a vacation, each Career Forecast reveals the important dates that you need to know about.

Let’s dive in!

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Aries on March 20th at 2:59 pm pacific time. Aries is a sign of fiery initiative. It is the first sign of the zodiac and one of the most daring. It plunges into experience, says YES and charts new territory. It loves new ideas, projects and possibilities. When we enter Aries, we enter springtime in our lives. What do we want to begin? What do we want to initiate? How do we want to come forth in this new chapter of our lives?

On March 20th, we also happen to celebrate the Full Moon of Aries. The Full Moon is exact at 6:42 pm pacific time. This amplifies the fire and potency of this sign. We don’t just amble into our new beginning. We leap. We dive. We dare. We feel emboldened. We stand for new ideas that help improve conditions for Humanity. During a Full Moon time, always take the time to extend your love and compassion outward. Recognize that we are all evolving and must support one another in our evolution. Recognize that an Aries Full Moon helps us all stand in the energy of the WILL, helping us move forward in the Aries where we can most contribute.

Venus moves into Pisces on March 26th. Venus works well in this loving sign. There is a sensitivity and kindness to this combination that helps soften the Aries edge. We can communicate with a depth of listening and care. Our imagination is also strong and dreamtime is helpful in taking next steps.

Mercury moves direct on March 28th at 6:59 am pacific time. The reflection time is complete. Now the Aries energy can truly move forward without obstruction. This truly is a time of action. Pitch ideas. Launch businesses. Go back to school. Start afresh. You are deeply supported to share your message and your ideas at this time.

The New Moon of Aries is on April 5th. This is an affirming day. Whatever you are in the midst of creating gets an extra lift. The positive, forward moving energy of Aries is alive and well today and carries forward for the next two weeks. We definitely feel a momentum and a sense of possibility.

Jupiter moves retrograde on April 10th and will stay retrograde for 4 months until August 11th. It offers a time of reflection around our goals and visions. It doesn’t stop the momentum but it helps to refine where we are headed. We might also have deeply nourishing travel experiences, visiting places where we are encouraged to reflect and feel a great connection.

On April 16th, Mercury joins the Sun in Aries. Mercury thrives in Aries and helps to clarify our message and deliver it effectively. Use this Mercury in Aries time to say what you have to say, to write what you have to write and to make sure you connect with those that need to hear!

Finally, there is a second Full Moon of Aries on April 19th. This is rare, but potent. It gives us an additional opportunity to come forth with the new or to plant one last seed before our shift into Taurus. As ever with a Full Moon, take some time during the day to meditate or get quiet and feel how we are all working to seed the new for the betterment of Humanity.

It’s a potent month full of fresh starts and building momentum. The inner winter is complete and the first new buds within us are breaking out into the light of day. Our message is increasingly clear and we choose to share it. Many things feel possible now. Seize the day.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and is considered the astrological new year.

As with all new years, it is a time for a fresh start, new resolutions and planting seeds.

Remember that Mercury is still in retrograde so wait until March 28th to move your plans forward. However, you can use this reflective time to get your plans into motion.

If you’re job hunting, this is an excellent moment to decide what you really want out of your next position. Make a list of 5 qualities that you’re looking for. Do you want a flexible schedule? Would you like to develop a particular skill? Is there a particular salary you’re aiming for? Write down your “fantasy job description.” Set a clear intention for what you want.

Say to yourself, “There are tons of amazing companies out there. I know I can find a job that excites me.” Try not to sink into lethargy and pessimism. Ride the hopeful energy that’s percolating on March 20th. Optimism rules on this day!

When Mercury moves direct on March 28th at 6:59 am PDT, the Aries energy can move forward without obstruction. This truly is a time of action. You are deeply supported to share your message and your ideas at this time.

The New Moon of Aries is on April 5th. It’s GO time!! Get those resumes out there. Start networking. Talk to your friends. Hold your own dinners. Get creative.

If you’re feeling anxious about your job hunt or feeling stuck and unsure about what type of job would make you happy, don’t isolate yourself. Staying home and flicking through your Facebook feed probably won’t help you get clarity. Instead of being alone, reach out and connect. Invite some friends out for a meal and have a career brainstorming session.

It would be a great time to sign up for Chart Your Career with Ellen and Heidi. You get a 60-minute astrology reading with Heidi + a 60-minute career strategy session with Ellen. This is a great way to breathe some fresh energy into your career, feel clear about where you’re heading, and figure out your specific action steps for the upcoming year

Or you can sign up for Ellen’s next Relaunch class that starts the end of April. Using design thinking techniques, you set goals, get moving and bring fresh energy into your life and career.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: On the same day that the sun moves into Aries (March 20), we have the full moon in Aries. There is also a second, and rare, full moon of Aries at the end of the month on April 19th. As Heidi said, this is a time that we leap, dive, dare and feel emboldened. We reach out, not just for ourselves, but for all of humanity.

Full moons are great days to try new things and shake things up. Instead of doing your weekly meeting in the conference room, take your team out to a bowling alley, or a martial arts class, or to the park for an afternoon picnic. Shake up the stagnant energy, get people moving, and new ideas will start flowing, too.

Venus moves into Pisces on March 26th. The Aries edge is softened. This is a dreamy, quiet, reflective type of day. You may find yourself wanting to snuggle in bed way past your usual wake-up time. You might feel inspired to “play hooky” and spend some quality time with someone you love.

If you can take this day off work—go for it. If that’s not possible, try to step away from your typical workday grind. Visit a bookstore on your lunch break and let yourself wander. Listen to an inspiring podcast on your commute. Head out to see a concert in the evening. Fill up your inspiration tank, and don’t push yourself too hard. This is not the day to “buckle down,” “grind away,” and “make things happen.” As Heidi puts it, this is a day when you’ll “dream your way into answers.”

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: On April 16th, Mercury joins the Sun in Aries. Mercury thrives in Aries and helps to clarify our message and deliver it effectively.

When Mercury is in Aries, we are less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision…quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries

It’s a great time to publish a blog post or do an Instagram Live. Talk to the people that need and want to hear what you have to say. Let your voice be heard.

Jupiter moves retrograde on April 10th and will stay retrograde for 4 months until August 11th.

Jupiter retrograde in transit is a regular cycle occurring every 13 months and lasting for about 4 months. Transiting Jupiter retrograde represents a time of philosophical or spiritual introspection and reflection. You will have to deal with particular issues involving growth and development, happiness and success.

Jupiter retrograde doesn’t stop the momentum but it helps to refine where we are headed. Whatever area of growth you need to work on is so important, extra time is needed to take stock and make sure everything in order before you continue. You may be tested to make sure you are ready to receive the good fortune, new romance, or increased wealth you seek.

Perhaps a challenging behavior like greed or addiction has got out of control. In this case, the Jupiter retrograde months will offer a chance to recognize and admit the problem. Once Jupiter stations direct you should have come to terms with the relevant issues and be ready to bound ahead toward ultimate success and happiness.

Famous People born under the Aries sun:

Aries is ruled by Mars. People born under this sign are energetic and assertive. Like their fellow fire signs, Leo and Sagittarius, Aries are passionate, motivated, and confident leaders who build community with their cheerful disposition and relentless determination.

Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci or simply Leonardo, lived during the Renaissance, whose areas of interest included invention, drawing, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, and cartography. He has been variously called the father of paleontology, ichnology, and architecture, and he is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time. Sometimes credited with the inventions of the parachute, helicopter, and tank, he epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal.

Many historians and scholars regard Leonardo as the prime exemplar of the “Renaissance Man”, an individual of “unquenchable curiosity” and “feverishly inventive imagination”,[6] and he is widely considered one of the most diversely talented individuals ever to have lived.

Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou (April 4, 1928 – May 28, 2014) was an American poet, singer, memoirist, and civil rights activist. She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, several books of poetry, and is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. She received dozens of awards and more than 50 honorary degrees.

She became a poet and writer after a series of occupations as a young adult, including a fry cook, sex worker, nightclub dancer and performer, singer and journalist. She was an actress, writer, director, and producer of plays, movies, and public television programs. Beginning in the 1990s, she made around 80 appearances a year on the lecture circuit, something she continued into her eighties. In 1993, Angelou recited her poem “On the Pulse of Morning” (1993) at the first inauguration of Bill Clinton.

Lady Gaga

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (born March 28, 1986), known professionally as Lady Gaga, is an American singer, songwriter and actress. She is known for her unconventionality, provocative work, and visual experimentation. She began performing as a teenager, singing at open mic nights and acting in school plays. She studied at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, before dropping out to pursue a music career.

Gaga is one of the best-selling music artists in history. Her achievements include several awards, including nine Grammy’s, an Academy Award, a Bafta Award, two Golden Globes, as well as the Songwriters Hall of Fame. She has been declared Billboard’s Artist of the Year and included among Forbe’s power and earnings rankings.

She is known for her philanthropy and social activism, including her work related to LGBT rights, and for her nonprofit organization, the Born This Way Foundation, which focuses on empowering youth and preventing bullying.

And of course, our very own sweet Heidi Rose Robbins!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEIDI!!

OVERALL, THIS IS A GREAT MONTH FOR…

• Fresh Starts

•  Building Momentum

• Seizing the Day

• Getting outside and moving

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THIS MONTH:

Start Close In

Start close in,
don’t take the second step
or the third,
start with the first
thing
close in,
the step
you don’t want to take.
Start with
the ground
you know,
the pale ground
beneath your feet,
your own
way of starting
the conversation.
Start with your own
question,
give up on other
people’s questions,
don’t let them
smother something
simple.

To find
another’s voice,
follow
your own voice,
wait until
that voice
becomes a
private ear
listening
to another.

Start right now
take a small step
you can call your own
don’t follow
someone else’s
heroics, be humble
and focused,
start close in,
don’t mistake
that other
for your own.

Start close in,
don’t take
the second step
or the third,
start with the first
thing

close in,
the step
you don’t want to take.

-David Whyte, River Flow: New and Selected Poems

In my work as a career coach, and in Heidi’s work as an astrologer, we spend a lot of time working with people who feel stuck and overwhelmed. People typically hire me when their career goals feel “too big.” The journey ahead feels “too long.” Too many steps to take. Too many hurdles to get over. They wonder, “Can I really do this? Will I ever get where I want to be? It feels like it’s never going to happen. I don’t know if I have what it takes.”

We always encourage my clients to stop worrying about “how long” it’s going to take. Instead, focus on the one step you can take today. Make one phone call. Send one email. Schedule one meeting. Research one grad school program. Take one step today, and another step tomorrow, and keep going. One month from now, you’ll be thirty steps closer to achieving your goal.

Ride the energy of Aries—new beginnings, fresh starts, innovation, optimism, and passion—and keep moving in the direction you want to go. Make a pact with yourself. Decide to keep marching forward, no matter what.

Until next time…

Much love,

Ellen & Heidi

Your Career Forecast: February / March 2019

Ellen Fondiler | Your Career Forecast: February / March 2019

Once a month, I join forces with my dear friend and astrologer extraordinaire, Heidi Rose Robbins to post an overview of what’s happening in the cosmos and how it might influence your career. It’s called Your Career Forecast.

Whether you’re job-hunting, running your own business, or wondering about the ideal time to ask for a raise or take a vacation, each Career Forecast reveals the important dates that you need to know about.

Let’s dive in!

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Pisces on February 18th at 3:04 pm pacific time. Pisces is a water sign and offers compassion, huge sensitivity and a desire to uplift and care for the less fortunate. It is the carrier of unconditional love and fundamentally understands that we are all one. Pisces is the dreamer, the artist and the intuitive. Pisces listens and flows, empathizes and offers succor. When we enter Pisces, everything quiets down and we attune ourselves to something beyond our daily rhythms. We listen for a greater heartbeat, the waves of the oceans across the planet, the united breathing of Humanity.

Almost immediately, on February 19th, following the Sun’s ingress into Pisces, we celebrate the Full Moon of this season. Our concerns turn outward. Whom can we uplift? How can we offer our compassion? Who is in need? Collective meditation is the deepest and subtlest energy work and the Full Moon is always a necessary turning inward. But we can also be hands on and particularly in tune and helpful to those who need our help. Delve in AND reach out.

Perhaps it is appropriate in the timeless-time of Pisces that the next major planetary shift does not occur until March 1st. Venus moves into Aquarius on this day emphasizing group work and creativity. We value the brainstorming, group-think process. Friends and allies can be of tremendous help and guidance.

Mercury moves retrograde on the 5th of March until March 28th. This offers a contemplative, dreamy, reflective 3 weeks. It is not a time for forging ahead or for marching orders. Instead we can review and envision. It is quiet. It is deep. It is full of self-compassion and outer ease. Do not fear this retrograde time. Embrace it. It has many gifts.

There is a New Moon of Pisces on March 6th, on the same day that Uranus moves back into Taurus. The New Moon offers the whisper of things to come. It plants the seeds of love and care as we prepare for a more active and outward moving chapter. It seems to say, “Do not forget this dreamtime. Do not forget the replenishment you are receiving. This will serve you when you are most at work.”

The shift of Uranus into Taurus is a major one. The planet of change and reinvention enters the most stable and comfort oriented of signs. It will be shaking up and waking up all things Taurus over the next 8 years. We will all be reassessing what we value, what IS of value and how we can more deeply value what matters. The ways we work with money will change. And hopefully, there will be a great new attention to the environment as Taurus is so deeply connected to our Earth.

There are no other major planetary shifts before the Sun moves into Aries on March 20th. Enjoy the spaciousness and silence of this month. Love big and love often. Give yourself time to truly listen to how your life wants to unfold. Don’t simply give in to the grind. We can always and at any moment, change and evolve our lives.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: This month there are some aspects that strongly suggest that instead of going big and bold, you go inward and use the month to organize, reflect and get yourself ready for the fiery Aries season next month.

The planet Mercury goes retrograde on March 5 and will stay retrograde until March 28th. This is probably not the best time to send out resumes or cover letters or go out on interviews. There are too many possible mishaps re: technology and communication that could take place.

Instead, think of this time as a pause, a few weeks of reflection before the next full flowering. This Mercury retrograde period offers time to delve into some serious soul searching and delve into the questions, “Who am I?” and “Where do I fit in?”

This is a great time to organize your job search, update your resume and cover letters, and research new companies you may want to approach come the fall.

This is also a great time to think ahead and to develop your life plan. Ellen’s RELAUNCH class starts again on March 17 (live in San Francisco) and March 19 (online via zoom).

Using the tools for the Designing Your Life course developed by two Stanford professors, you can iterate the possible jobs you may want, create a life design plan and prototype to see what may or may not really appeal to you. It’s a great way to figure out your next steps in the job search process.

You can also get a reading with Heidi. Or even better, get the best of both of us at our very first Spring Renewal Retreat on March 30 in Malibu. We will gather 20 women and spend the day immersed in astrology, design thinking, healthy food beautiful sandy beaches, ocean views and inspiring conversations about life and career goals.

As Heidi said, do not fear this retrograde time. Embrace it. It has many gifts. It offers a contemplative, dreamy, reflective 3 weeks, during which time we can review and envision. It is quiet. It is deep. It is full of self-compassion and outer ease.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: When the Sun moves into Pisces on February 18th, we have an opportunity to wash away the past—and begin anew. Pisces is the final sign in the Zodiac and it’s associated with endings, release, and letting go.

Is there anything you’ve been “holding onto” at work? Maybe there’s a project from last year that didn’t pan out very successfully—and you’re still feeling embarrassed about it. Maybe you’re holding a grudge against a colleague who took credit for your hard work. Or that person who flaked out and left you with a huge mountain of extra tasks. Or that person who sends you passive-aggressive emails five times a day.

If there’s anything about your job that feels burdensome, it’s time to let it all go. After all, you don’t want to walk into the office feeling heavy and stressed!

During the time of Pisces, do whatever you need to do to release the heaviness of the past. Meditate. Exhale deeply. Put a quartz crystal—known for clearing away stale energy—or a healthy plant in your office. Create some kind of ritual or symbol to indicate to yourself, “The past is past. I’m moving on.”

Venus moves into Aquarius on March 1, bringing an opportunity for loving, flowing creative collaborations. It’s a time during which we value the brainstorming, group-think process. Friends and allies can be of tremendous help and guidance. Collaborate with a colleague to start a podcast or bring a new person onto your team. This would also be a great day to start a new writing group or accountability group—perhaps a couple of friends who’d like to meet monthly to share goals and swap ideas. Hang with like-minded people. They’ll open your eyes to new possibilities—and you’ll do the same for them!

During the time of Pisces, especially on the powerful New Moon on March 6th, think beyond your individual life and your individual ambitions. How could you create a ripple of compassion that extends far, far, far beyond yourself? Take a step to make it so.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

On February 19th, following the Sun’s ingress into Pisces, we celebrate the Full Moon of this season.

On this day, we have access to a big, beautiful ocean of emotion—love, compassion, and hope for humanity. If you’re self-employed, ask yourself, “How could I use my position as an entrepreneur to improve the world?”

You don’t have to be “world famous” or a “billionaire philanthropist” in order to make a difference in people’s lives. Be imaginative. Come up with a project that you feel excited to do.

What type of project? Well, for example, you could host a fundraiser inside your shop. You could contribute a small percentage of your profits to charity. You could use your online platform to spread an important message. You could partner with a local school to create a special line of products featuring artwork from kids. You could do something really, really small—like mail one anonymous “thank you” letter to a fellow entrepreneur who inspires you. You could mentor young business owners, writers, or artists—perhaps you’ve got one, two, or ten years of hard-earned wisdom that you could share.

Finally, on March 6, Uranus will move into Taurus for the next EIGHT YEARS! This is a major shift and will cause us to reassess what we value, and how we can more deeply value what matters. As business owners it is important to stay awake to the changes that will be occurring around money, the environment, and all things in the Taurus/ earth realm.

Famous Pisceans

Pisceans are gentle, kind, creative, passionate, and extremely loving, not to mention dreamy, spiritual, soulful and with a great sense of humor. People whose birthdays fall under this sign include:

George Washington

America’s first President. His Presidency marked the end of a turbulent, violent war—and the dawn of a new country. Big, oceanic waves of change!

Albert Einstein

A scientist, a dreamer, an innovator. A prime example of Piscean imagination—seeing what might be possible, even if nobody else sees it yet.

Steve Jobs

Another highly creative, imaginative thinker who created massive ripples of change. Jobs’ creativity has awakened creativity in millions of people—people who now use his products to blog, podcast, make videos, and so much more.

Rihanna

Her makeup company—Fenty Beauty—is a beautiful example of Piscean artistry and compassion. Her product line includes 40 different skin tones, and with this, Rihanna is sending a clear message to her customers: “Nobody is left out. Everyone is welcome here.”

And, two people at the heart of two award-winning documentaries this year were also born when the sun was in Pisces:

Fred Rogers

For over 30 years, Fred Rogers, an unassuming minister, puppeteer, writer and producer, was beamed daily into homes across America. In his beloved television program, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Fred and his cast of puppets and friends spoke directly to young children about some of life’s weightiest issues, in a simple, direct fashion. He was a creative genius who inspired millions of children with his compassion and limitless imagination.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Ginsburg was appointed by President Bill Clinton and took the oath of office on August 10, 1993. She was the second (of four) female justices to be confirmed to the court. She is generally viewed as belonging to the liberal wing of the court and has received attention in American popular culture for her fiery liberal dissents and refusal to step down. She has been dubbed the “Notorious R.B.G.”

Overall, this is GREAT month for:

• Dreaming and imagination. Your next big idea could be right around the corner.

• Compassion and emotional depth. Dive deep inside your heart. Express. Make art.

• Refilling your creative tank. Reading poetry, attending a film festival, or diving into an inspiring Netflix documentary.

• Finding new ways to serve humanity. Creating positive ripples of change.

• Shedding, creating closure, releasing the past. The time of Pisces is like “New Year’s Eve” all over again—an ending and a new beginning.

Protect your time. Feed your inner life. Avoid too much noise. Read good books, have good sentences in your ears. Be by yourself as often as you can. Walk. Take the phone off the hook. OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Aquarius at 1:00 am Pacific time on January 20th. The power of the group sings through Aquarius. Whatever we do, we do it together. Aquarius is innovative and electric. We improvise, reinvent and break out of anything too confining. We can use Aquarius for fresh starts and problem solving. And we can certainly use this potent energy to build and enjoy our community.

On January 20th, when the Sun moves into Aquarius, it is also the day of the Full Moon. In Esoteric Astrology at the Full Moon time, we honor the sign the SUN is in. So, we call this moon the Full Moon of Aquarius. This is a great opportunity to work with and call in our allies. What can we build with our community? It’s also a powerful window to distribute our own Leo gift. Let’s pour our gifts forth for those that could benefit.

On January 23rd, Mercury moves into Aquarius. Now the planet of communication enters this innovative energy as well. This is the perfect time to think about things in a new way and from a different perspective. You might suddenly realize that the solution to a problem is closer than you could imagine. It’s an excellent brainstorming cycle.

Venus moves into Capricorn on February 3rd. This signals a period of accomplishment and ambition. We take our creativity seriously at this time. We commit in matters of love. We grow more determined to spend our time and money on what we truly value. We enjoy the climb.

The New Moon of Aquarius falls on February 4th. We plant the seeds of our next group endeavor. We ask how we might benefit the most people with what we have to give. We are electric and enlivening. We have faith that our innovative ideas will take root. We continue to work to bring change in the areas we care most about.

Mercury will only spend a couple of weeks in Aquarius before it moves into Pisces on February 10th. This heralds the approaching Pisces month. Mercury in Pisces offers a strong intuitive connection. We are also dreamier and our feeling-sensitivity is strong. We may not be as clear and direct as usual, but we make up for it with a sense of vastness and spaciousness and possibility in our communications.

Finally, on Valentine’s Day, Mars moves into Taurus, a great sign of desire. Under Taurus, we all work to change our desire to aspiration. We look to use our Will to fulfill our highest calling. Mars in Taurus gives us steady strength. We can do a lot of hard work under this combination.

Use this month of Aquarius to call in the new. Summon your allies. Think with objectivity and clarity. Brainstorm. Give your gift in community. Shift your focus away solely from I and invest in the potent WE. Have an electric and exciting month!

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As Heidi mentioned, on January 23rd, Mercury moves into Aquarius. Now the planet of communication joins the sun and enters this innovative sphere, this is the perfect time to think about your job search in a new way and from a different perspective.

You could start by asking yourself, “What’s one thing about my job search that is not make sense?” Or… “One thing that’s really inefficient?” Or… “One thing that’s just not working smoothly?”

It could be that you need to take a new approach to how you are approaching things. Ellen’s 5-week class RELAUNCH is the perfect solve. The class is all about using Design Thinking: goal setting, taking small steps, watching them add up to big changes and bringing new energy into your life and career.

There is still room in the online class that starts on January 22. And there will be a new class starting the end of February. Go to my website and check it out.

Or if you want to think outside the box, Aquarius style, purchase Chart Your Career, a new offering from Heidi and me. An hour of astrology with Heidi. An hour of Career advice with me. Plus, a follow-up of next steps via email with ton of links and to do’s.

By the time Mars moves into Taurus on Valentine’s Day, you will be ready to use your will to fulfill your highest calling. Mars in Taurus gives us steady strength. You will do a lot of hard work under this combination.

Lastly, if you’re job-hunting, remember that the sign of Aquarius is all about group dynamics. The energy of many is greater than that of one. Think: “Collaboration.”

Rather than job-hunting all by yourself, meet up with friends. Host a dinner party, cocktail hour, or brunch. Ask questions like: “Do you happen to know anybody who works at {name of company}? Could you make an introduction for me?” “What do you think about your current workplace?” “Would you recommend working there? “Why or why not?”

More often than not, exciting job opportunities arise because of personal connections. To unlock all kinds of surprising doors, don’t isolate yourself. Turn to your community.

This would be a great time for a group off-site to look at where the company is and where it is going. Look at how you can all change the dynamic at work to make it more innovative.

Ask yourselves: Are you aligning with a higher cause? Do you have a mission you connect with every day? Do you feel like you have a space to be of service or do work for the greater whole? Are you connecting with visionary ideas? New perspectives? Reading inspiring books?

Maybe start a book club at work? Or a writing class? Check out Laurie Wagner’s 27 Wild Days writing prompts. Do it as a group for a month.

Maybe plan a summer internship program for college students that might want to learn more about your industry.

Or, spearhead an exciting new project at your company, like a diversity initiative, a wellness program, or a lunchtime series featuring inspirational speakers. Write down what your “next level” would look like and go for it!

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

These three upcoming transits can have great impact on all of you self-employed entrepreneurs:

Venus moves into Capricorn on February 3rd. This signals a time of accomplishment and ambition. We grow more determined to spend our time and money on what we truly value.

The New Moon of Aquarius falls on February 4th. We plant the seeds of our next group endeavor. We have faith that our innovative ideas will take root.

Mercury will only spend a couple of weeks in Aquarius before it moves into Pisces on February 10th. We are dreamier and our feeling-sensitivity is strong.

So, what does this all mean? COLLABORATE! Aquarius creates fertile ground for teamwork. It’s a great time to reach out to a potential business partner, add a new employee to your team, and/or start planning a community-driven project.

If you run a yoga studio, for example, you could collaborate with a physical therapist. Working together, you could plan a workshop focusing on yoga moves that are safe for people struggling with bad backs, wonky necks, and other frustrating injuries. Together, you’ll rise higher!

For inspiration, read Grace Bonney’s Good Company magazine that comes out quarterly. The first issue is all about community. The second about fearlessness. Flip through and read a few pages whenever you need a creative boost.

Also, this would be a great time to join a co-working space. There are so many great spots in cities everywhere for women to gather and be in community. It is a life saver if you work for yourself.

Mercury in Pisces is a great time to communicate with your clients and customers—especially if you’re sharing a tender, heartfelt message.

Think: a 1-minute video expressing your gratitude for every customer who made a purchase in the last year. Or record a 5-minute meditation and share it on your blog. Or send out a newsletter with a touching story about an experience that changed your life. You’ll be surprised by how many people respond to say, “Thank you. That was beautiful. I really needed to hear that today.

Famous Aquarians

Aquarians are deep thinkers and highly intellectual people who love helping others. They are able to see without prejudice, on both sides, which makes them people who can easily solve problems.

People born under this sign include:

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was an American statesman and lawyer who served as the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln led the United States through the American Civil War—its bloodiest war and perhaps its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis.

Lincoln’s Aquarian nature served him well. He made far-reaching, out of the box decisions. He often broke with tradition, going as far as to select his previous political enemies to serve on his cabinet.

Galileo Galilei

Considered the father of modern science, Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) made major contributions to the fields of physics, astronomy, cosmology, mathematics and philosophy. He invented an improved telescope that let him observe and describe the moons of Jupiter, the rings of Saturn, the phases of Venus, sunspots and the rugged lunar surface.

His flair for self-promotion earned him powerful friends among Italy’s ruling elite and enemies among the Catholic Church’s leaders. His advocacy of a heliocentric universe brought him before religious authorities in 1616 and again in 1633, when he was forced to recant and placed under house arrest for the rest of his life.

Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks was an American activist in the civil rights movement best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The United States Congress has called her “the first lady of civil rights” and “the mother of the freedom movement”

Her refusal to surrender her seat to a white male passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus, December 1, 1955, triggered a wave of protest December 5, 1955 that reverberated throughout the United States. Her quiet courageous act changed America, its view of black people and redirected the course of history.

Jackie Robinson

Jack Roosevelt Robinson was an American professional baseball player who became the first African American to play in Major League Baseball in the modern era. Robinson broke the baseball color line when the Brooklyn Dodgers started him at first base on April 15, 1947.

Robinson’s character, his use of nonviolence and his unquestionable talent challenged the traditional basis of segregation which then marked many other aspects of American life. He influenced the culture of and contributed significantly to the civil rights movement. After his death in 1972, in recognition of his achievements on and off the field, Robinson was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and Presidential Medal of Freedom.

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Capricorn on December 21st at 2:23 pm Pacific. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is the Winter Solstice: the shortest day of the year with the least amount of daylight. It’s the darkest, most silent time of the year.

Capricorn is an earth sign. It is solitary and hard working, determined and achievement oriented. It can climb the mountaintop of power and status or the mountaintop of consciousness and spiritual unfoldment. It is a sign of great accomplishment and fortitude. If ever there was a time to live up to our commitments and delve into our most purposeful work, it’s during the month of Capricorn.

It’s quite significant that the very next day, December 22nd, we experience the Full Moon of Capricorn. We are in sacred, solstice time and the opportunity to receive inspiration and clear vision is great. For those of you that meditate, this is a particularly rich time to do so. It is easier to align with the energy of the soul during these Full Moon times. It’s also a powerful time to internally connect with fellow men and women of goodwill.

On December 31st, Mars moves into Aries. I love that we get to launch the New Year with the warrior planet in the sign of initiative. We leap into 2019. We dive into the possibility of a fresh start. We feel strong and vital and dynamic. No work feels too great. We have the energy of youth and springtime.

Mercury moves into Capricorn on January 4th, joining the Sun in Capricorn. This is perfect timing. The holiday is over and work calls. And we WANT to work. We want to dig in, commit and climb. Our thoughts turn to more serious matters and we use our time and energy well.

January 5th brings The New Moon of Capricorn. Seeds are planted for the success and fruition of the new climb. We assume responsibility for our lives in a new way. We realize that we are the ones that are authoring our own stories. We commit to a story that feels strong and clear. We feel our fortitude. We name our mountain and embark.

Uranus moves direct on January 6th. It moved retrograde in August 2018 and its energy is now finally clearly moving forward. Uranus is the planet of change and re-invention. It brings a kind of electricity and originality into effect. The maverick, brainstorming energy is now readily available. This movement may bring some relief to our rule following, Capricorn climb.

Finally, on January 7th, Venus moves out of Scorpio into the visionary sign of Sagittarius. Freedom is in the air. A new kind of movement forward is possible. Inspiration and idealism are present. Goal setting feels exciting and possible.

This is a powerful month, one of great accomplishment and hard work. Much can be completed during these days. Much can be achieved. Start the New Year with a great depth of commitment to YOURSELF and the gift you bring.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Job hunters, I’ve got a very good feeling about January 6th. That’s when Uranus moves direct. Uranus is the planet that rules unexpected, sudden, out of the blue opportunities, as well as change and reinvention. With Uranus energy in the air, anything could happen! This is the type of day when a former boss from six years ago might text you, out of nowhere, to say, “Hey. Want to come work for me again?” Or you might walk straight into a new job opportunity while you’re moseying down the street—like bumping into an old friend who works for a company that’s hiring right now. There’s electricity in the air!

Take some time to get organized so that you’re ready to pounce on any opportunities that might be tumbling your way. Before January 6th rolls around, be sure to update your résumé and LinkedIn profile, spruce up your professional wardrobe—whatever you need to do to feel confident and fully prepared. That way, when a surprising opportunity knocks, you’ll be ready to answer the door!

Check out these résumé-writing tips if you need a few pointers. And if your style is feeling lackluster, check out Scarlet Chamberlin’s blog. Scarlet shares lots of wonderful style tips and ideas. She encourages you to do some “re-purposing”—in other words, shop around in your own closet and remix classic items that you already have, rather than buying a bunch of new stuff that you don’t really need. (A great move when you’re in between jobs, especially if money is tight!)

Also, check out 50 Ways to Get a Job by Dev Aujla. This project started as a website and now it’s been turned into a book. Over 400,000 people have used the exercises that Aujla recommends… with excellent results!

And if you’re feeling discouraged and weary about your job hunt, here’s a book that will help you have a good laugh: 50 Jobs Worst Than Yours by Justin Racz. Hey, being unemployed can definitely be stressful, but it could always be worse! You could have to work as a telemarketing script writer, typing words all day long, knowing that you’re going to be irritating thousands of people who DON’T want to hear what you’ve written and who will probably slam down the phone. Yikes.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Hopefully, your workplace will be closed during the late December holidays and you’ll have a chance to recharge. Sleep in, read in bed, relax, and rest up… Because once Mercury moves into Capricorn on January 4th, it’s GO TIME! On the 4th, you might feel totally ready to head back into work. You might find yourself secretly glancing at work emails (even if you’re still technically on vacation) and feeling eager to get things moving again. Up, up, and away we go!

The following day is January 5th and we’ve got the New Moon of Capricorn. This is the ideal moment to write down your wishes, goals, and intentions for the year ahead. It’s also a great day to begin something new—a new morning routine, a new meditation practice, a new workout regime, a new way of organizing your to-do list at work. Whenever a New Moon comes around, that’s when you want to plant new seeds… so they can take root deeply and grow.

Capricorn tends to bring a “serious” energy into the air. It’s like that authoritative CEO who walks into a conference room and once they’re in there, the giggling stops and everyone knows, “OK, quiet down, it’s time to get serious.” So, all throughout the month of Capricorn, you can tap into this serious energy and use it to your advantage. Focus. Commit. Be disciplined. Climb whatever mountain is in front of you. Just be careful not to swing too far to the extreme. Leave a little space in your life for spontaneity, silliness, and socializing too. We don’t want you to work yourself to the bone and get burnt out during the first week of the year!

A few resources for you: Here’s a quick article with some good points on how to motivate your team to do great work and strive for excellence (I especially agree with point #5). Here are some printable worksheets for organizing your daily and weekly goals. SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

How did 2018 go for you?

No matter what happened—whether it was your most profitable year ever, or whether it was really problematic and challenging—here’s some great news:

On December 31st, Mars moves into Aries. Mars is the warrior of the cosmos. Aries is the first sign in the Zodiac calendar—a sign of vitality, strength, excitement, and new beginnings. This is such a powerful combination as we wrap up the old year and begin a new one. We have an opportunity to make a MAJOR fresh start!

Consider doing some type of “ritual” to give yourself closure on 2018 so you can release any discouragement you might be feeling about the year that’s ending—and step into 2019 feeling confident and optimistic. Every year, my colleague Susan Hyatt posts a list of her “business highs and lows” from the last twelve months, which is always very illuminating—and hilarious! Paul Jarvis does something similar. He posts a list of things he learned from the last year, things that worked well, and things that didn’t.

Take a cue from entrepreneurs like Susan and Paul. Make your own list of highs and lows. Write down areas where you excelled and areas where your business systems could improve. Read your list back to yourself. This is a great way to do a “self-performance review”—and also, it’s a great way to remind yourself of how many things you achieved in the last year. I bet when you tally it all up, it’s a LOT!

Also, if you’re self-employed, definitely mark down January 7th on your calendar. On this day, Venus moves into Sagittarius. Hello, GOALS! This is a great day to set visionary, next-level goals for your business. Maybe you’re ready to launch a new type of service, increase your rates, commit to a daily writing habit, book some studio time to record season one of your podcast, or… something else. There’s a passionate, adventurous spirit in the air. You might feel bolder than usual—ready to throw yourself whole-heartedly into a thrilling new project. What a fantastic start to the New Year!

Famous Capricorns

Capricorns tends to be grounded, focused, determined, willing to work for the long haul and climb, climb, climb up the mountain of success. They’re not people who get easily defeated. They tend to see the big picture and they recognize that it takes time to build great things.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A heroic man who understood that changing the world doesn’t happen overnight—it’s the type of work that must be done patiently, bravely, and consistently over many decades.

Muhammad Ali. A powerhouse fighter who understood the importance of dedicated, committed hard work—and always standing back up after you fall.

Betty White. At age 96, this actress is still booking roles and delighting audiences. What a perfect example of the steadfast Capricorn spirit. She just keeps going and going… and going!

Kate McKinnon. She charms millions of viewers with her dead-on impressions on Saturday Night Live. But she didn’t explode into comedy stardom out of nowhere. She honed her skills for years—making YouTube videos and performing in sketch comedy groups—before getting her big break on SNL. Her persistence reminds us that excellence is not crafted overnight—it’s a journey.

Overall, this is GREAT month for:

• Building consistent, healthy routines into your daily life.

• Making sensible plans, working steadily, and getting things done.

• Being a little more ambitious than usual, climbing upward, and reaching for a higher level of success in your career and personal life, too.

• Raising your standards and working on projects that require seriousness, willpower, discipline, and self control.

• Making LOTS of progress towards reaching all kinds of goals, big and small.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

December 21st – The Sun moves into Capricorn and it’s the Winter Solstice, too. What do you want to create in your life, more than anything? What’s one area of your life where you could be more committed, disciplined, and patient?

December 22nd – The Full Moon of Capricorn. Capricorn energies in full force! Pledge yourself fully to a goal, intention, or project. Write down your plan and sign it, just like it’s a binding legal agreement.

December 31st – Mars moves into Aries. Goodbye to the old, hello to the new! There’s a feeling of strength and vitality in the air.

January 4th – Mercury moves into Capricorn. Time to get back to work! A great day for any type of work-related communication: emails, announcement, writing a company manifesto, etc.

January 5th – The New Moon of Capricorn. Do you have any new wishes or dreams for 2019? Take the first tiny action step today. Plant the new seed.

January 6th – Uranus moves direct, possibly bringing unexpected changes and wild, out of the blue opportunities.

January 7th – Venus moves into Sagittarius. Freedom is in the air! Adventure, exciting goals, and passionate movement towards whatever you want most.

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THIS MONTH:

“If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” —Michael Jordan

We’re all climbing some type of mountain.

You might be climbing towards a higher salary, towards a thriving business, towards more creativity and fulfillment at work, towards better health, or something else.

Wherever you’re trying to go, the only way forward… is forward. Keep going. Harness the powerful Capricorn energy—steady, determined, sensible, patient—and never stop climbing!

Wishing all of you wonderful holidays and a beautiful new year filled with peace.

Love,

Ellen & Heidi

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Sagittarius on November 22nd, 2018 at 1:02 am Pacific time. We now enter the sign of optimism, momentum, and vision. We feel inspired to move forward in new ways, to travel and to broaden our perspective.

Sagittarius brings an energy of renewal and freedom. This is the month for big plans and big dreams. The Full Moon of Sagittarius happens to fall on November 22nd as well, so we enter this Sagittarian energy with power and passion. The phrase for Sagittarius is “I see the goal. I reach the goal. And then I see another.” This is the month of dynamic movement towards the GOAL.

On November 24th, Neptune moves direct. This dreamy and sometimes elusive planet now moves forward with imagination and sensitivity. Projects you’ve only been dreaming about can now start to come to fruition. (You might wait until Mercury moves direct on December 6th to take any initiating, new action).

On December 2nd, Venus re-enters Scorpio after its retrograde period in Libra. Venus isn’t completely comfortable in Scorpio but will spend its time well here working consciously in the financial realm. We will also all benefit from tenacity and research. This is a time to value the work that takes us deep into the heart of the matter. We value grit and resolve when Venus is in Scorpio.

Mercury moves direct on December 6th. And on the same day, we have New Moon in Sagittarius. This day brings a surge of freedom and clear action forward. We always benefit from reflection time and it will always inform and clarify our next goals. But now is a time of intentions and first strong steps to fulfill those intentions. We move now.

Finally, while Mercury was retrograde, it spent some time in Scorpio between December 1st and the 12th.  On December 12th, it moves into Sagittarius again which further inspires and activates our work. The only caveat is to be careful of exaggeration or overly blunt communication. We must summon finesse and an awareness of detail even as we paint the big picture.

With Jupiter solidly in Sagittarius now (since November 8th), our spirits should grow increasingly strong and directed. If ever there were an entire year to hold a vision and pursue it, it’s this year. Let’s continue with strength. Use this Sagittarian time to re-orient if necessary, name the dream, and take the first few deliberate steps towards it.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Job-hunting is a funny thing. Sometimes, a fantastic job opportunity falls into your lap—seemingly out of the clear blue sky. Other times, job-hunting is a long, slow, tedious process where you’re waiting around for weeks, hoping to hear back, but then hearing… a whole lot of nothing.

But here’s some good news. On November 24th, Neptune moves direct. Neptune is the planet of inspiration, dreams, spirituality, and psychic flashes of clarity. On the 24th—while you’re eating leftover Thanksgiving turkey, folding laundry, or stretching before bedtime—you might get a sudden flash of insight about your job search.

For instance, suddenly, you remember that you met a lovely woman at book club two months ago, and she works for the art museum (which you love!), and then you remember that the museum has an annual fundraiser every December, and who knows, maybe they need some extra help! Maybe you could get involved as a volunteer or as a consultant, which might eventually lead to a full time job…

If possible, take some time on November 24th for a yoga class, a long bath, a swim, a massage, meditation, or some other activity that helps you relax. Let Neptune work its dreamy magic on your brain—and let the inspiration flow in.

Mercury moves direct on December 6th. It’s also the New Moon in Sagittarius on this same day. Now is your moment to hit “send,” “apply,” “schedule,” “confirm.” It’s all about forward momentum. If you’ve got a pile of résumés that you’ve been meaning to send out, or a list of people you’ve been meaning to reconnect with, now’s the ideal time to do it. It’s time to ACT.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Mercury moves direct on December 6th. And then, Mercury moves into Sagittarius on December 12th.

Mercury is the planet that rules communication. Sagittarius is all about adventure, big visions, and goals, goals, goals! This means that December 6th – 12th is an excellent time to discuss “big picture” ideas.

Sagittarius invites us to “name the dream.” If there’s something you really want to do at work—name it and claim it! This is the time to make your intentions known.

Maybe you’d like the chance to manage a small team, to mentor the new interns, or to start a new workplace initiative focused on creativity, wellness, social media, recycling, work/life balance… or something else that intrigues you. Whatever you want to start doing at work, the first step is to tell somebody about it. Talk to your boss. Talk to the HR director. Whoever you need to speak with, set up the conversation and say what you want.

During the cozy winter season, curl up with one of these 12 books that will inspire you to bring your career to a new level. Or dig into my blog archives and check out Unlocked Links—hundreds of interesting, inspiring, funny, and moving links focused on life, career, and business topics. Lots of reading material for a rainy—or snowy—winter day.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

November 22nd is a BIG DAY. We’ve got the Sun moving into Sagittarius AND the Full Moon in Sagittarius on the same day. It also happens to be Thanksgiving Day here in the United States, which means you’ll probably be away from your desk and spending time with family and friends.

It’s a day of renewal, freedom, and optimism. A perfect day to share a meal with loved ones and discuss things like: “What were your favorite moments and achievements from the last year?” and “What’s next for you?”

After Thanksgiving dinner, bring out some bulletin boards, paper, magazines, photos, and art supplies, and invite your guests to make a Vision Board for 2019. Here are some Vision Board Party tips. This is such a fun activity for the whole family to do—and after a few minutes, even the skeptics and grumblers usually get really into it!

More good news for entrepreneurs:

With its goal-oriented energy, the time of Sagittarius is GREAT for all forms of business-related communication. Emails, phone calls, speeches, videos, social media, product announcements, everything. The whole month of Sag (November 22nd – December 21st) is full of excellent communication energy, particularly after Mercury goes direct on December 6th. That’s when you really want to go full throttle with your communication plan.

Bring your communication strategy to a new level. Instead of sending a plain old email, send a personal video message using BombBomb. Instead of sending flowers to your top client with a boring Hallmark card, send something more personal and thoughtful. If they’re into astrology, send them one of Heidi’s Radiant Snapshots or one of these cool gifts. If they’re into health and wellness, send a packet of Ayurvedic powder to make tasty Moon Milk. Go the extra mile with your communication. It always pays off!

If you’re communication-phobic, here are some tips on how to look and feel great in your videos. If you freeze up whenever you’re having an important conversation, take an online course from actor and public speaking expert Alexa Fischer. (I connected with her recently through a mutual friend. She’s awesome!)

Or, brush up your communication skills with a free copywriting class. Or try Wild Writing, a process that helps you get unstuck and really gets your thoughts out of your head and onto the page. I recently became a certified Wild Writing instructor and I love incorporating this process into my classes so that my clients can try it, too. Once they try it once or twice, most people get totally addicted!

Bottom line:

These last few weeks of 2018 can be slow and dull… or amazingly profitable. Your success depends on your mindset.

You can decide, “Everyone’s busy and distracted by the winter holidays. Nobody’s paying attention. I’m not going to sell anything or make any money this month.”

Or, you can decide, “This is going to be AMAZING month for my business. People want to buy holiday gifts. People want to get squared away for the New Year. I’ve got products and services that can really help! This is going to be a month of explosive sales. I can’t wait.”

Whatever mindset you choose to have, that’s how December is going to roll.

Set your sights on your goal, stay focused, and go, go, go!

Famous Sagittarians

Independent. Adventurous. Goal oriented. Slightly commitment phobic? Sometimes! Sagittarians love the thrill of achievement but typically, they hate being tied down long-term. Convincing a Sag to sign a 5-year business contact? That’s going to be tough.

Madeleine L’Engle. A pioneering female voice in the male-dominated fantasy book genre. She’s the author of A Wrinkle In Time, a timeless classic. (Did you catch the film version starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling?)

Bruce Lee. When it comes to being “goal oriented,” you don’t get much better than Bruce Lee! A disciplined actor, director, and martial artist who ultimately developed his own unique style of martial arts, called Jeet Kune Do.

Taylor Swift. She pivoted away from a successful career as a country artist and forged her own unique path. She’s known for making unexpected, free-thinking moves—like deleting every single photo on her Instagram account and sending her fans into a tizzy, wondering, “What is she going to do next?”

Overall, this is GREAT month for:

Writing down big picture ideas. Big dreams. Big fantasies. Big goals.

Re-orienting yourself. Are you headed in the right direction? If not, adjust your sails and get back on track.

Leveling up. You set goals at the beginning of the year and you’ve probably achieved most (or at least, some) of them. So now what? What’s next?

Communication in all forms: emails, texts, videos, podcasts, making your own hilarious GIFs, whatever you feel excited to do.

A spirit of adventure. Book a spontaneous ticket to a conference. Try something new with your team at work. Stretch out of the box. Be a little wild!

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

• November 22nd – The Sun moves into Sagittarius and it’s the Full Moon in Sag, too. Sagittarius energy: amplified to the max!

• November 24th – Neptune moves direct. A great day for dreaming, visualizing, and sudden flashes of psychic insight.

• December 2nd – Venus re-enters Scorpio. Love is in the air, along with tenacity. Have deep conversations. Get to the heart of the matter.

• December 6th – Mercury moves direct. New Moon in Sag. Move full steam ahead with new travel plans, new projects, and new communication strategies. It’s time to act!

• December 12th – Mercury moves into Sagittarius. Even more good vibes for all things communication-related. Reach out. Mail the package. Hit “send.”

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THIS MONTH:

Enjoy this month. Celebrate all that you’ve done. All that you’ve achieved. Even more importantly, celebrate the person you are—and the person you’re becoming.

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Scorpio on October 23rd, 2018 at 4:23 am Pacific time. With Jupiter in Scorpio since October 2017, this Scorpio energy has been deeply at work for all of us. Scorpio seeks to heal and purge the system. It wants all that is repressed or secret or hidden that is not serving us to be brought to the light of day. It is the sign of the triumphant warrior who has penetrating perception and a magnetic intensity. Scorpio always wants to go deeper. It rules sex, death and money, as well as healing and transformation. Always with Scorpio we must avoid destructiveness, repression, jealousy and vengeful behavior.

On October 30th, Mercury moves out of Scorpio into Sagittarius. This will be important just before the elections in the United States. Mercury in Sagittarius will inspire and uplift. It can offer a new vision and inspire others to follow. Of course, we can exaggerate and be overly blunt with this combination as well. So, we must work to communicate with as much clarity and honesty as possible.

On October 31st, Venus moves into Libra which will help with the intensity of Scorpio. This combination emphasizes peace and diplomacy. It might take the edge of the fight with more civility and a pronounced call for peace. Fairness and justice will be emphasized and valued during this time. We can fight about principles and action under Scorpio, but Venus will try to make sure we do so in right relationship.

November 6th, 7th, and 8th will be a significant three days. Uranus dips back into Aries on November 6th—election day in the United States. Uranus will stimulate and wake up the Aries impulse and remind us to come forth and speak up. It will definitely bring a few surprises. This may very well stimulate the voting turn out. And tempers could flare. Uranus will stay retrograde in Aries until March 6th, 2018. These months may remind us what we are fighting for and give us an extra boost to do so.

November 7th brings a New Moon in Scorpio and on November 8th, Jupiter moves into Sagittarius. The Scorpio New Moon brings tremendous healing potential and Jupiter in Sagittarius will most definitely bring new visions, optimism and forward momentum. Jupiter will spend an entire year in Sagittarius which will also encourage a more global perspective and a willingness to broaden our perspective.

November 15th, Mars moves into Pisces which might calm the fire of Mars just a bit. Mars in Pisces isn’t necessarily the most comfortable position because Mars loves to fight and Pisces loves to love. But we can certainly move forward with compassionate or imaginative action. Pisces is a sign of redemption and Mars will fight to redeem and uplift.

Finally, Mercury will move retrograde on November 16th just as Venus moves direct. Relationship issues will clarify. It won’t necessarily be the best moment to move forward in the realm of business. Remember under Mercury Retrograde, it’s best to reflect, review and plan for the future. Don’t use the Mercury Retrograde period to reach out and attempt to establish new relationships or contacts. Pause and consider, reassess and refine.

It’s a powerful month, one that will bring great change. May inner and outer healing abound.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: October 23rd is an important day for anyone’s who’s searching for a new job. On this day, the Sun moves into Scorpio. It’s time to purge, heal, and face the dark, icky stuff that you don’t want to look at.

If your job hunt has been moving along very slowly—or not at all—it’s time to take personal responsibility for everything. Face the truth. What’s holding you back? Fear? Lack of clarity? Disorganization? Complacency? Inattentiveness? Whatever it is, Scorpio invites you to take a hard look and deal with it. This doesn’t mean you should be cruel to yourself or beat yourself up about it. This moment is more like Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights putting a hand on your shoulder and saying, “Hey. You’re stronger than this. It’s time to quit messing around and get to work. You’re a warrior, so act like it. Clear eyes. Full heart. Can’t lose!”

Another big day for job-hunters: November 6th. That’s when Uranus dips back into Aries. Uranus is all about surprise twists. Aries is a go-getter and a free thinker. When you combine these two forces, pow! It’s a day where you can expect the unexpected. Anything could happen!

November 6th is also great day to ask yourself, “What is my ultimate dream job?” What are the qualities you really want? What kind of workplace would be truly amazing for you? It’s time to go after the job you really want, rather than going for a job that seems safe or obvious. Thanks to the combination of Uranus and Aries, your boldness may lead to unexpected opportunities! One email, text, or lunch date could lead to a shocking, out of the blue invitation that rocks your whole life… in a good way. Repeat to yourself, “I’m going for what I really want. Because who knows what might happen?”

Coincidentally, as Heidi pointed out, November 6th is the midterm election day here in the United States. What better opportunity to ask yourself “What is important to me?” and “What do I value most strongly?” Let your job-search be driven by your personal values. For instance, if you value “kids and family” more than anything else, then don’t apply to work for a technology start-up that expects you to work 24/7 and never turn off your phone. That’s not the right fit for you!

Here’s a list of companies that are great for working parents, companies where highly creative people thrive, companies that are involved in politics/activism, and companies that strongly support health, wellness, and work/life balance. Or visit Glassdoor to read anonymous reviews from actual employees who work at hundreds of companies, each sharing what it really feels like to work there.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Even if you love your job, there might be moments where you wish you could just be left alone, or moments when a colleague is really getting on your nerves. Fortunately, on October 31st, Venus moves into Libra. Venus rules love. Libra is all about harmonious partnerships. So, this Venus-Libra combination means that conference calls, meetings, and team projects are likely to go very smoothly. Pass out fun-sized Halloween candies to your colleagues, smile, be kind, and let your actions remind people, “Hey, I’m your friend. We’re on the same team.”

Emotions might be flaring on November 6th, 7th, and 8th. There’s a lot going on in the cosmos on those three days. Be prepared for some friction, tension, and surprises. Quiet colleagues might suddenly speak up. A longtime employee might suddenly quit, leaving a vacancy you didn’t expect. The CEO might announce a bold new company vision and restructuring plan that leaves you wondering, “But wait—will I still have a job?” There might be some tantrums or passive-aggressive behavior around the workplace. Try to extend compassion to your co-workers and remember that everyone’s dealing with a LOT right now—challenges that you know about, and private challenges that you don’t.

November 8th is when Jupiter moves into Sagittarius. Here, we get a nice surge of optimism. Even if things feel pretty emotionally intense at work, you might notice yourself feeling hopeful, curious, or a little more adventurous than usual. You might find yourself thinking about your next job, your next move, the next chapter of your career. Like the Sagittarian archer, where do you want to aim next? Write down any ideas that pop into your head—even if they seem nuts—because you just might come up with something crazy-brilliant.

Good things to read this month: When To Jump by Mike Lewis, a fantastic book about leaping into a new chapter of your career, When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron, a Buddhist nun with a beautiful perspective on change and upheaval, and this great New Yorker piece: How To Make Friends As An Adult.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Now here’s an interesting astrological opportunity… on November 15th, Mars moves into Pisces. Pisces is a sign of redemption and Mars is a great warrior. If you run a business, this is a day where you can fight to earn—or earn back—people’s trust.

For instance, if you promised you’d deliver a project to your client—but then things took longer than expected and you ended up being significantly delayed—now’s the moment to make up for things. Give your client a discount on the final invoice to say “sorry” for the lateness. Pledge to do better in the future. Fight to regain their trust. As a freelancer or business owner, your reputation means everything. Some good reading material: Paul Jarvis discussing the importance of your professional reputation and your relationships, aka your social capital.

While we’re on the topic of redemption, remember to extend forgiveness to others, too. Maybe your assistant bungled a few projects up lately—but you sense he’s really trying to make things right. Take a cue from loving, compassionate Pisces. Forgive and move on. We’re only human, after all.

Backing up a little bit, let’s look at October 30th, Mercury moves into Sagittarius. Mercury rules communication: texts, emails, newsletters, podcasts, videos, social media, books, all communication channels. And Sagittarius is all about taking aim towards an exciting goal and embarking on a new adventure.

This is a powerful moment to say to your clients, customers, and fans: “Hey, listen up—and follow me!” You could announce a new program and invite people to enroll. Or challenge your fans to pledge to do {something} for several days in row. For inspiration, check out this 30 day squat challenge (whoa, quads of steel!), this 10 day journaling challenge, or this 5 day healthy smoothie challenge. Leading a community challenge can help you breathe fresh energy into a sleepy fan base that hasn’t been purchasing your work lately.

But if running a 30 day challenge just doesn’t fit your personality or your brand (hey, it’s not really my thing either), then find another way to give your audience some attention. Share a free e-book. Teach a helpful webinar. Release a bonus podcast episode. There are so many creative ways to get people excited about your ideas, services, classes, programs, and products. Pick a communication channel that suits you—and get yourself out there.

Overall, Scorpio calls us to purge, clear, purify, clear out the muck that’s holding us back, get away from superficiality, go deep, and talk about “the real stuff.” So, if you run a business, consider launching something that’s related to themes of emotional renewal, healing, and transformation. Your customers will say, “Whoa, are you reading my mind? How did you know? I totally needed this right now.”

FAMOUS SCORPIOS

Scorpios sometimes get a bad rap for being jealous, vengeful, or difficult to work with. But these qualities don’t represent the whole picture. Scorpios are also passionate, faithful, intuitive, and often create catharsis and healing wherever they go.

Bill Gates. Genius. Philanthropist. World changer. He has given away $50 billion to date. He’s determined to heal systems that don’t work and make the planet a better place.

Brené Brown. This academic researcher became a household name after giving a TED Talk about the power of emotional vulnerability—letting down your shield and saying what you truly think and feel.

Ciara. This singer recently made an explosive comeback with her new song, Level Up. It’s a song about taking a hard look at yourself, clearing old crud out of your life, and reaching a new level of honesty, strength, and success. So very Scorpio!

Drake. This emotional, passionate singer isn’t afraid to share what he really feels. He’s so proud to be a Scorpio, he even named one of his albums Scorpion.

OVERALL, THIS IS A GREAT MONTH FOR…

Bringing emotions to the surface. What have you been hiding, stuffing down, not doing, or not saying? It’s time to face the music.

Healing, catharsis, and transformation. Pour feelings into your journal. Hike until you’re pouring with sweat. Let it all out.

Being intense—in a good way. Write a love letter. Hug your kids tightly. Fully commit to a project at work. Give your all. Don’t hold back.

Letting your truth be heard. (If you’re a US citizen, don’t forget to register to vote so that you can participate in the election on November 6th.)

New visions, new goals, a surge of optimism, and forward momentum. Yes!
