Your Career Forecast: February / March 2019

Ellen Fondiler | Your Career Forecast: February / March 2019

Once a month, I join forces with my dear friend and astrologer extraordinaire, Heidi Rose Robbins to post an overview of what’s happening in the cosmos and how it might influence your career. It’s called Your Career Forecast.

Whether you’re job-hunting, running your own business, or wondering about the ideal time to ask for a raise or take a vacation, each Career Forecast reveals the important dates that you need to know about.

Let’s dive in!

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Pisces on February 18th at 3:04 pm pacific time. Pisces is a water sign and offers compassion, huge sensitivity and a desire to uplift and care for the less fortunate. It is the carrier of unconditional love and fundamentally understands that we are all one. Pisces is the dreamer, the artist and the intuitive. Pisces listens and flows, empathizes and offers succor. When we enter Pisces, everything quiets down and we attune ourselves to something beyond our daily rhythms. We listen for a greater heartbeat, the waves of the oceans across the planet, the united breathing of Humanity.

Almost immediately, on February 19th, following the Sun’s ingress into Pisces, we celebrate the Full Moon of this season. Our concerns turn outward. Whom can we uplift? How can we offer our compassion? Who is in need? Collective meditation is the deepest and subtlest energy work and the Full Moon is always a necessary turning inward. But we can also be hands on and particularly in tune and helpful to those who need our help. Delve in AND reach out.

Perhaps it is appropriate in the timeless-time of Pisces that the next major planetary shift does not occur until March 1st. Venus moves into Aquarius on this day emphasizing group work and creativity. We value the brainstorming, group-think process. Friends and allies can be of tremendous help and guidance.

Mercury moves retrograde on the 5th of March until March 28th. This offers a contemplative, dreamy, reflective 3 weeks. It is not a time for forging ahead or for marching orders. Instead we can review and envision. It is quiet. It is deep. It is full of self-compassion and outer ease. Do not fear this retrograde time. Embrace it. It has many gifts.

There is a New Moon of Pisces on March 6th, on the same day that Uranus moves back into Taurus. The New Moon offers the whisper of things to come. It plants the seeds of love and care as we prepare for a more active and outward moving chapter. It seems to say, “Do not forget this dreamtime. Do not forget the replenishment you are receiving. This will serve you when you are most at work.”

The shift of Uranus into Taurus is a major one. The planet of change and reinvention enters the most stable and comfort oriented of signs. It will be shaking up and waking up all things Taurus over the next 8 years. We will all be reassessing what we value, what IS of value and how we can more deeply value what matters. The ways we work with money will change. And hopefully, there will be a great new attention to the environment as Taurus is so deeply connected to our Earth.

There are no other major planetary shifts before the Sun moves into Aries on March 20th. Enjoy the spaciousness and silence of this month. Love big and love often. Give yourself time to truly listen to how your life wants to unfold. Don’t simply give in to the grind. We can always and at any moment, change and evolve our lives.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: This month there are some aspects that strongly suggest that instead of going big and bold, you go inward and use the month to organize, reflect and get yourself ready for the fiery Aries season next month.

The planet Mercury goes retrograde on March 5 and will stay retrograde until March 28th. This is probably not the best time to send out resumes or cover letters or go out on interviews. There are too many possible mishaps re: technology and communication that could take place.

Instead, think of this time as a pause, a few weeks of reflection before the next full flowering. This Mercury retrograde period offers time to delve into some serious soul searching and delve into the questions, “Who am I?” and “Where do I fit in?”

This is a great time to organize your job search, update your resume and cover letters, and research new companies you may want to approach come the fall.

This is also a great time to think ahead and to develop your life plan. Ellen’s RELAUNCH class starts again on March 17 (live in San Francisco) and March 19 (online via zoom).

Using the tools for the Designing Your Life course developed by two Stanford professors, you can iterate the possible jobs you may want, create a life design plan and prototype to see what may or may not really appeal to you. It’s a great way to figure out your next steps in the job search process.

You can also get a reading with Heidi. Or even better, get the best of both of us at our very first Spring Renewal Retreat on March 30 in Malibu. We will gather 20 women and spend the day immersed in astrology, design thinking, healthy food beautiful sandy beaches, ocean views and inspiring conversations about life and career goals.

As Heidi said, do not fear this retrograde time. Embrace it. It has many gifts. It offers a contemplative, dreamy, reflective 3 weeks, during which time we can review and envision. It is quiet. It is deep. It is full of self-compassion and outer ease.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: When the Sun moves into Pisces on February 18th, we have an opportunity to wash away the past—and begin anew. Pisces is the final sign in the Zodiac and it’s associated with endings, release, and letting go.

Is there anything you’ve been “holding onto” at work? Maybe there’s a project from last year that didn’t pan out very successfully—and you’re still feeling embarrassed about it. Maybe you’re holding a grudge against a colleague who took credit for your hard work. Or that person who flaked out and left you with a huge mountain of extra tasks. Or that person who sends you passive-aggressive emails five times a day.

If there’s anything about your job that feels burdensome, it’s time to let it all go. After all, you don’t want to walk into the office feeling heavy and stressed!

During the time of Pisces, do whatever you need to do to release the heaviness of the past. Meditate. Exhale deeply. Put a quartz crystal—known for clearing away stale energy—or a healthy plant in your office. Create some kind of ritual or symbol to indicate to yourself, “The past is past. I’m moving on.”

Venus moves into Aquarius on March 1, bringing an opportunity for loving, flowing creative collaborations. It’s a time during which we value the brainstorming, group-think process. Friends and allies can be of tremendous help and guidance. Collaborate with a colleague to start a podcast or bring a new person onto your team. This would also be a great day to start a new writing group or accountability group—perhaps a couple of friends who’d like to meet monthly to share goals and swap ideas. Hang with like-minded people. They’ll open your eyes to new possibilities—and you’ll do the same for them!

During the time of Pisces, especially on the powerful New Moon on March 6th, think beyond your individual life and your individual ambitions. How could you create a ripple of compassion that extends far, far, far beyond yourself? Take a step to make it so.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

On February 19th, following the Sun’s ingress into Pisces, we celebrate the Full Moon of this season.

On this day, we have access to a big, beautiful ocean of emotion—love, compassion, and hope for humanity. If you’re self-employed, ask yourself, “How could I use my position as an entrepreneur to improve the world?”

You don’t have to be “world famous” or a “billionaire philanthropist” in order to make a difference in people’s lives. Be imaginative. Come up with a project that you feel excited to do.

What type of project? Well, for example, you could host a fundraiser inside your shop. You could contribute a small percentage of your profits to charity. You could use your online platform to spread an important message. You could partner with a local school to create a special line of products featuring artwork from kids. You could do something really, really small—like mail one anonymous “thank you” letter to a fellow entrepreneur who inspires you. You could mentor young business owners, writers, or artists—perhaps you’ve got one, two, or ten years of hard-earned wisdom that you could share.

Finally, on March 6, Uranus will move into Taurus for the next EIGHT YEARS! This is a major shift and will cause us to reassess what we value, and how we can more deeply value what matters. As business owners it is important to stay awake to the changes that will be occurring around money, the environment, and all things in the Taurus/ earth realm.

Famous Pisceans

Pisceans are gentle, kind, creative, passionate, and extremely loving, not to mention dreamy, spiritual, soulful and with a great sense of humor. People whose birthdays fall under this sign include:

George Washington

America’s first President. His Presidency marked the end of a turbulent, violent war—and the dawn of a new country. Big, oceanic waves of change!

Albert Einstein

A scientist, a dreamer, an innovator. A prime example of Piscean imagination—seeing what might be possible, even if nobody else sees it yet.

Steve Jobs

Another highly creative, imaginative thinker who created massive ripples of change. Jobs’ creativity has awakened creativity in millions of people—people who now use his products to blog, podcast, make videos, and so much more.

Rihanna

Her makeup company—Fenty Beauty—is a beautiful example of Piscean artistry and compassion. Her product line includes 40 different skin tones, and with this, Rihanna is sending a clear message to her customers: “Nobody is left out. Everyone is welcome here.”

And, two people at the heart of two award-winning documentaries this year were also born when the sun was in Pisces:

Fred Rogers

For over 30 years, Fred Rogers, an unassuming minister, puppeteer, writer and producer, was beamed daily into homes across America. In his beloved television program, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Fred and his cast of puppets and friends spoke directly to young children about some of life’s weightiest issues, in a simple, direct fashion. He was a creative genius who inspired millions of children with his compassion and limitless imagination.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Ginsburg was appointed by President Bill Clinton and took the oath of office on August 10, 1993. She was the second (of four) female justices to be confirmed to the court. She is generally viewed as belonging to the liberal wing of the court and has received attention in American popular culture for her fiery liberal dissents and refusal to step down. She has been dubbed the “Notorious R.B.G.”

Overall, this is GREAT month for:

• Dreaming and imagination. Your next big idea could be right around the corner.

• Compassion and emotional depth. Dive deep inside your heart. Express. Make art.

• Refilling your creative tank. Reading poetry, attending a film festival, or diving into an inspiring Netflix documentary.

• Finding new ways to serve humanity. Creating positive ripples of change.

• Shedding, creating closure, releasing the past. The time of Pisces is like “New Year’s Eve” all over again—an ending and a new beginning.

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THIS MONTH:

“Tell the whole truth. Don’t be lazy, don’t be afraid. Close the critic out when you are drafting something new. Take chances in the interest of clarity of emotion. Be a good steward of your gifts. Protect your time. Feed your inner life. Avoid too much noise. Read good books, have good sentences in your ears. Be by yourself as often as you can. Walk. Take the phone off the hook. Work regular hours.” -Everything I Know About Writing Poetry by Jane Kenyon

Move forward in this Pisces month with creativity, wisdom and an open heart.

Much love,

Ellen & Heidi
