Once a month, I join forces with my dear friend and astrologer extraordinaire, Heidi Rose Robbins to post an overview of what’s happening in the cosmos and how it might influence your career. It’s called Your Career Forecast.
Whether you’re job-hunting, running your own business, or wondering about the ideal time to ask for a raise or take a vacation, each Career Forecast reveals the important dates that you need to know about.
Let’s dive in!
OVERVIEW
What’s going on this month…
HEIDI: The Sun moves into Aries on March 20th at 2:59 pm pacific time. Aries is a sign of fiery initiative. It is the first sign of the zodiac and one of the most daring. It plunges into experience, says YES and charts new territory. It loves new ideas, projects and possibilities. When we enter Aries, we enter springtime in our lives. What do we want to begin? What do we want to initiate? How do we want to come forth in this new chapter of our lives?
On March 20th, we also happen to celebrate the Full Moon of Aries. The Full Moon is exact at 6:42 pm pacific time. This amplifies the fire and potency of this sign. We don’t just amble into our new beginning. We leap. We dive. We dare. We feel emboldened. We stand for new ideas that help improve conditions for Humanity. During a Full Moon time, always take the time to extend your love and compassion outward. Recognize that we are all evolving and must support one another in our evolution. Recognize that an Aries Full Moon helps us all stand in the energy of the WILL, helping us move forward in the Aries where we can most contribute.
Venus moves into Pisces on March 26th. Venus works well in this loving sign. There is a sensitivity and kindness to this combination that helps soften the Aries edge. We can communicate with a depth of listening and care. Our imagination is also strong and dreamtime is helpful in taking next steps.
Mercury moves direct on March 28th at 6:59 am pacific time. The reflection time is complete. Now the Aries energy can truly move forward without obstruction. This truly is a time of action. Pitch ideas. Launch businesses. Go back to school. Start afresh. You are deeply supported to share your message and your ideas at this time.
The New Moon of Aries is on April 5th. This is an affirming day. Whatever you are in the midst of creating gets an extra lift. The positive, forward moving energy of Aries is alive and well today and carries forward for the next two weeks. We definitely feel a momentum and a sense of possibility.
Jupiter moves retrograde on April 10th and will stay retrograde for 4 months until August 11th. It offers a time of reflection around our goals and visions. It doesn’t stop the momentum but it helps to refine where we are headed. We might also have deeply nourishing travel experiences, visiting places where we are encouraged to reflect and feel a great connection.
On April 16th, Mercury joins the Sun in Aries. Mercury thrives in Aries and helps to clarify our message and deliver it effectively. Use this Mercury in Aries time to say what you have to say, to write what you have to write and to make sure you connect with those that need to hear!
Finally, there is a second Full Moon of Aries on April 19th. This is rare, but potent. It gives us an additional opportunity to come forth with the new or to plant one last seed before our shift into Taurus. As ever with a Full Moon, take some time during the day to meditate or get quiet and feel how we are all working to seed the new for the betterment of Humanity.
It’s a potent month full of fresh starts and building momentum. The inner winter is complete and the first new buds within us are breaking out into the light of day. Our message is increasingly clear and we choose to share it. Many things feel possible now. Seize the day.
What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…
JOB HUNTING?
Here’s what you need to know…
ELLEN: Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and is considered the astrological new year.
As with all new years, it is a time for a fresh start, new resolutions and planting seeds.
Remember that Mercury is still in retrograde so wait until March 28th to move your plans forward. However, you can use this reflective time to get your plans into motion.
If you’re job hunting, this is an excellent moment to decide what you really want out of your next position. Make a list of 5 qualities that you’re looking for. Do you want a flexible schedule? Would you like to develop a particular skill? Is there a particular salary you’re aiming for? Write down your “fantasy job description.” Set a clear intention for what you want.
Say to yourself, “There are tons of amazing companies out there. I know I can find a job that excites me.” Try not to sink into lethargy and pessimism. Ride the hopeful energy that’s percolating on March 20th. Optimism rules on this day!
When Mercury moves direct on March 28th at 6:59 am PDT, the Aries energy can move forward without obstruction. This truly is a time of action. You are deeply supported to share your message and your ideas at this time.
The New Moon of Aries is on April 5th. It’s GO time!! Get those resumes out there. Start networking. Talk to your friends. Hold your own dinners. Get creative.
If you’re feeling anxious about your job hunt or feeling stuck and unsure about what type of job would make you happy, don’t isolate yourself. Staying home and flicking through your Facebook feed probably won’t help you get clarity. Instead of being alone, reach out and connect. Invite some friends out for a meal and have a career brainstorming session.
It would be a great time to sign up for Chart Your Career with Ellen and Heidi. You get a 60-minute astrology reading with Heidi + a 60-minute career strategy session with Ellen. This is a great way to breathe some fresh energy into your career, feel clear about where you’re heading, and figure out your specific action steps for the upcoming year
Or you can sign up for Ellen’s next Relaunch class that starts the end of April. Using design thinking techniques, you set goals, get moving and bring fresh energy into your life and career.
ALREADY HAVE A JOB?
Here’s what you need to know…
ELLEN: On the same day that the sun moves into Aries (March 20), we have the full moon in Aries. There is also a second, and rare, full moon of Aries at the end of the month on April 19th. As Heidi said, this is a time that we leap, dive, dare and feel emboldened. We reach out, not just for ourselves, but for all of humanity.
Full moons are great days to try new things and shake things up. Instead of doing your weekly meeting in the conference room, take your team out to a bowling alley, or a martial arts class, or to the park for an afternoon picnic. Shake up the stagnant energy, get people moving, and new ideas will start flowing, too.
Venus moves into Pisces on March 26th. The Aries edge is softened. This is a dreamy, quiet, reflective type of day. You may find yourself wanting to snuggle in bed way past your usual wake-up time. You might feel inspired to “play hooky” and spend some quality time with someone you love.
If you can take this day off work—go for it. If that’s not possible, try to step away from your typical workday grind. Visit a bookstore on your lunch break and let yourself wander. Listen to an inspiring podcast on your commute. Head out to see a concert in the evening. Fill up your inspiration tank, and don’t push yourself too hard. This is not the day to “buckle down,” “grind away,” and “make things happen.” As Heidi puts it, this is a day when you’ll “dream your way into answers.”
SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
Here’s what you need to know…
ELLEN: On April 16th, Mercury joins the Sun in Aries. Mercury thrives in Aries and helps to clarify our message and deliver it effectively.
When Mercury is in Aries, we are less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision…quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries
It’s a great time to publish a blog post or do an Instagram Live. Talk to the people that need and want to hear what you have to say. Let your voice be heard.
Jupiter moves retrograde on April 10th and will stay retrograde for 4 months until August 11th.
Jupiter retrograde in transit is a regular cycle occurring every 13 months and lasting for about 4 months. Transiting Jupiter retrograde represents a time of philosophical or spiritual introspection and reflection. You will have to deal with particular issues involving growth and development, happiness and success.
Jupiter retrograde doesn’t stop the momentum but it helps to refine where we are headed. Whatever area of growth you need to work on is so important, extra time is needed to take stock and make sure everything in order before you continue. You may be tested to make sure you are ready to receive the good fortune, new romance, or increased wealth you seek.
Perhaps a challenging behavior like greed or addiction has got out of control. In this case, the Jupiter retrograde months will offer a chance to recognize and admit the problem. Once Jupiter stations direct you should have come to terms with the relevant issues and be ready to bound ahead toward ultimate success and happiness.

OVERALL, THIS IS A GREAT MONTH FOR…
• Fresh Starts
• Building Momentum
• Seizing the Day
• Getting outside and moving
YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THIS MONTH:
Start Close In
Start close in,
don’t take the second step
or the third,
start with the first
thing
close in,
the step
you don’t want to take.
Start with
the ground
you know,
the pale ground
beneath your feet,
your own
way of starting
the conversation.
Start with your own
question,
give up on other
people’s questions,
don’t let them
smother something
simple.
To find
another’s voice,
follow
your own voice,
wait until
that voice
becomes a
private ear
listening
to another.
Start right now
take a small step
you can call your own
don’t follow
someone else’s
heroics, be humble
and focused,
start close in,
don’t mistake
that other
for your own.
Start close in,
don’t take
the second step
or the third,
start with the first
thing
close in,
the step
you don’t want to take.
-David Whyte, River Flow: New and Selected Poems
In my work as a career coach, and in Heidi’s work as an astrologer, we spend a lot of time working with people who feel stuck and overwhelmed. People typically hire me when their career goals feel “too big.” The journey ahead feels “too long.” Too many steps to take. Too many hurdles to get over. They wonder, “Can I really do this? Will I ever get where I want to be? It feels like it’s never going to happen. I don’t know if I have what it takes.”
We always encourage my clients to stop worrying about “how long” it’s going to take. Instead, focus on the one step you can take today. Make one phone call. Send one email. Schedule one meeting. Research one grad school program. Take one step today, and another step tomorrow, and keep going. One month from now, you’ll be thirty steps closer to achieving your goal.
Ride the energy of Aries—new beginnings, fresh starts, innovation, optimism, and passion—and keep moving in the direction you want to go. Make a pact with yourself. Decide to keep marching forward, no matter what.
Until next time…
Much love,
Ellen & Heidi
