Your Career Forecast: September / October 2016

Ellen Fondiler | Your Career Forecast for Libra: September / October 2016

I work as a career and business strategist. But my secret passion is… astrology!

About once a month,  I post an overview of what’s happening in the cosmos and how it might influence your career. It’s called: Your Career Forecast.

Whether you’re job-hunting, running your own business, or wondering about the ideal time to ask for a raise or take a vacation, each Career Forecast will reveal the important dates and cosmic shifts that you need to know about.

I am joined by my dear friend, Heidi Rose Robbins, a master astrologer who will provide expert insight into what’s going on in the stars.

Let’s dive in!

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Libra on September 22nd at 7:22am Pacific Standard Time for about 30 days. In Latin, the word “Libra” means “weighing scales.” If you look at the night sky, the constellation known as Libra vaguely resembles a scale with two sides—left and right—both balanced with equal weight on each side. In Greek mythology, the scales were held up in the sky by Astraea, the goddess of justice.

Libra invites us to seek balance, harmony, equality, tolerance, cooperation, and justice in our lives. It’s a powerful time to examine your behavior and aim for an even higher level of integrity in your daily life: telling the whole truth, avoiding white lies, following through on your promises, treating yourself—and others—with care and compassion.

It’s also a powerful time to speak up if you feel that you (or someone else) are being mistreated. It’s a great time to deepen friendships and partnerships, reaching a new level of trust and mutual respect. And it’s a great time to flex your negotiation muscles—tap into your inner attorney and courageously ask for what you want! Under the sign of Libra, your efforts to seek fairness and justice will be amplified.

On September 23rd, the planet Venus moves into Scorpio. Prepare for intensity! The Venus-Scorpio combination might leave you feeling tenacious and investigative, yearning for deep conversations that cut right to the heart of the matter. Small talk about the weather? Not today. A passionate workplace romance? Maybe!

Mars moves into Capricorn on September 27th. On this day, you may feel like an unstoppable warrior who’s capable of climbing the biggest mountain. It’s a day of relentless determination—the perfect time to buckle down and make serious progress with a daunting project.

There is a New Moon in Libra on September 30th. The New Moon always provides a great opportunity to make new wishes, plant new seeds, and start new projects. If there’s a goal that’s been floating around in your mind for awhile, on September 30th, get specific, write it down, and commit to making it happen for real.

On October 11th, the planet Mercury sits right next to Jupiter. In Roman mythology, Mercury is the god of financial gain as well as messages/communication. If there’s an important email you need to send out, or a big conversation you need to have—like asking for a raise—October 11th would be a stellar day to do it. Thoughtful communication can translate into wealth on this day—even more so than usual!

The Full Moon in Libra happens on October 15th. The Full Moon invites you to celebrate the past month and reflect back on what you’ve experienced and achieved. How have you brought more balance into your life over the past 30 days, whether emotionally, physically, or professionally? Whatever you’ve managed to improve: celebrate it!

Venus moves into Sagittarius on October 18th, bringing a surge of optimism and adventure. You might get struck with a daring new idea on this day—perhaps a new project at work that’s a bit unconventional? If that happens—run with it! Aim your arrow and let it fly. Your adventurous spirit will be rewarded.

Finally, on October 19th, Mars aligns with Pluto. Mars represents warrior energy—passionate, driven, active, even hot-headed at times. It’s an exciting, high-energy kind of day. Channel your energy into one of your biggest goals and go, go, go! Pluto rules the subconscious, so in addition to feeling the fiery warrior energy of Mars on this day, you might also feel an urge to “dive deep.” You might feel the urge to tackle a project with deep personal significance rather than tending to surface-level stuff, like answering emails or tidying up your desk. On October 19th: go big and go deep.

Welcome to the month of Libra! Collaborate, cooperate, and celebrate together!

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB-HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As Heidi mentioned, Mars moves into Capricorn on September 27th, and it’s a day marked by relentless determination! No more futzing around. It’s time to put your nose to the grindstone. Update your résumé. Write your cover letter. Make a list of 10 companies you’d love to work for—and get the application process going.

It’s time to tap into your inner warrior and charge forward with conviction. Surround yourself with inspiring role models—people who get things done and don’t make any excuses. (Two great reads: How Bad Do You Want It? by Matt Fitzgerald and Shooting the Boh by Tracy Johnston.)

Speaking of inspiration, role models, and getting things done…

It’s seriously motivating, inspiring, and fun! The program runs from October 10th – November 20th and you can read all the details and sign up right HERE.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: If you’re currently employed and you really love your job, this would be an excellent time to expand your horizons at work. With Venus moving into Sagittarius on October 18th, you’ll feel a lust for adventure and new challenges. Do you feel ready to manage a team? Do you want to spearhead a new project? Are you ready to dive into a demanding class that will give you some new skills? Go for it! Sagittarius is represented by the mythical centaur—half horse, half human, outfitted with a bow and arrow. Take aim and gallop forward! Finish 2016 with a bang!

What if you’re employed—but you’re not that “into” your current job? Well, before you start drafting your resignation letter, take advantage of the Sun moving into Libra on September 22nd—a time of positive communication, cooperation, and justice for all.
Do you feel disrespected at work? Are you continually asked to work overtime for no additional pay? Does someone keep stealing your yogurt from the communal fridge?! Rather than stewing—or jumping ship—see if you can become a peacemaker. Speak up. Open the lines of communication.

Even better: try to organize an off-site retreat where everyone in your department can express themselves honestly, air their grievances, and discuss important changes that need to be made. Because of your peacemaking efforts, your workplace could become a place where everyone feels seen and heard—and you might fall back in love with your job in the process.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As Heidi mentioned, the planets Mercury and Jupiter will be sitting right next to each other on October 11th. Mercury is all about prosperity and communication. Jupiter is the planet of intellect, education, and higher learning. Combined together? Your reminder for the day is: Think before you speak.

If you’re self-employed, this would be a terrific day to email potential clients to pitch one of your services, blast out a newsletter to announce a new product, or launch a Facebook ad campaign to promote a new program. It’s a great day to put your message out there—and thoughtful communication will be rewarded.

Just be extra-cautious with your wording and proceed intelligently. Do your research, double-check your facts, run your language through grammar-checking software (like Grammarly) and think carefully about what you’re saying and how you’re going to say it. When you approach your written materials and conversations with a little extra care and attentiveness, your clients and customers can feel it.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

September 22nd – The Sun moves into Libra for one month. (Focus on cooperation, fairness, equality, and balance in all realms of life.)

September 23rd – Venus moves into Scorpio. (Skip the small talk and dive into deep, loving, investigative conversations. What’s really going on?)

September 27th – Mars moves into Capricorn. (A day of relentless determination! Tackle a daunting project and channel your inner warrior! Nothing can stop you now!)

September 30th – New Moon in Libra. (Make new wishes and set new goals—especially anything related to balance and justice.)

October 11th – Mercury aligns with Jupiter. (Think before you speak. Write, call, text, publish, post, and get your message out there—but proceed with extra thoughtfulness.)

October 15th – Full moon in Libra. (Reflect on the past month and celebrate your progress. How have you brought more cooperation, sweetness, partnership, and balance into your life over the past thirty days?)

October 18th – Venus moves into Sagittarius. (It’s all about optimism and adventure. New trip? New class? New project? Take aim and charge ahead!)

October 19th – Mars aligns with Pluto. (Tackle a project with deep personal significance—something that feels like your “true work” or your “legacy.” Go big and go deep.)

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THIS MONTH:

“Your heart and my heart are very old friends.” —Hafiz

Libra is all about collaboration, partnership and peacemaking.

When your professional relationships feel strained—if a client makes an unreasonable request, if a workplace friend flakes out or betrays your trust, if your employer behaves in a way that leaves you feeling disrespected—remember that there is always a way to proceed peacefully, building bridges rather than burning them down.

You don’t have to lash out. You can lead with your heart. In doing so, you’ll be a role model for those around you and you might permanently reshape your company culture, as well. Peace and justice for all. Intimacy and honest communication. Libra power!

Remember, too, that regardless of what’s going on around you, there is always a way to make progress with your goals and create the life and career that you want. The stars are not running the show: you are.

Every door can be unlocked.

Have an amazing month!

Your Career Forecast: August / September 2016

Ellen Fondiler | Your Career Forecast for Virgo

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Virgo on August 22nd at 9:38am Pacific Standard Time. For the next thirty days, it’s time to organize, organize, organize! Clean up, declutter, make lists, tick things off, and polish ideas until they gleam. Imagine marching into a disheveled room, rolling up your sleeves, and creating order from the chaos. That’s the energy of Virgo.

The month of Virgo is an excellent time to subtract unnecessary possessions and commitments from your life—clearing away the clutter so that you can spend your time doing what truly matters to you. It’s also an excellent time to commit—or re-commit—to personal health goals. If there was ever a time to clean up your diet—or clean up your mindset—this is it. You’ll find that it’s a bit easier to make these types of healthy lifestyle changes under the Virgo Sun.

On August 30th, Venus moves into Libra. This is a time of great beauty, balance, and harmonious relationships. It’s a wonderful time to host parties and gatherings, to start a book club, to meet up with friends to talk and bond in a deeper way. The Venus-Libra transit lasts about one month.

There’s another big shift happening on that same day: Mercury goes retrograde on August 30th for three weeks. Mercury retrograde gets a bad reputation because it’s typically a time where communication goes haywire—websites crash, emails get worded awkwardly, packages don’t arrive on time, and friction can arise. But don’t panic! Mercury retrograde also has a lot of positive qualities, too. It’s an excellent time for quiet reflection, reviewing, and assessing. Use this time to review the past few months of your life and career, asking, “What transpired? How could I build on that? What would I like to adjust?”

On September 9th, we have a big shift. Jupiter (the planet of generosity and growth) moves into Libra (the sign of relationships and peacemaking). Our world certainly needs this transit! With Jupiter in Libra, tensions soften, hearts open, and it becomes a bit easier to treat one another with kindness and compassion.

Then on September 10th, the planet Saturn squares Neptune—which means it’s time look at your current projects with a logical eye. This is not the time to get lost in dreamland—this is a time to implement a plan that is reasonable, doable and effective. Set aside some time on September 10th to think about one of your biggest goals. Break out your favorite pen, notebook, spreadsheets, and your calendar. Ask yourself, “OK, seriously… what needs to happen in order for me to reach this goal? What’s the most efficient, logical path forward?” You may notice a feeling of renewed motivation and clarity on this day—that “get it done!” energy, spurring you forward in a big way! (Hooray!)

The month of Virgo has the potential to be an extremely productive month.

May you achieve all you wish to achieve—with grace and kindness!

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB-HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As Heidi mentioned, on August 30th, the planet Venus moves into the sign of Libra for about one month. If you feel like your professional network is a little “weak,” or if you feel like you don’t have any “influential friends” who can open doors for you or help you find a new job, now you’ve got an opportunity to fix that. The month-long Venus-Libra transit is the perfect time to form—and deepen—all kinds of relationships.

Wondering how to expand and strengthen your professional network? To quote my wise mom, “The best way to make a friend is to be a friend.” Let that be your motto during the month of September. Instead of reaching out to people in your network to “ask for favors,” flip the script. Grant favors. Make introductions. Give generously. Be an amazing friend—and before too long, people will admire and trust you immensely.

For example, you could email a colleague to say, “Hey, I just noticed a job opportunity that might be perfect for you…” Call up an acquaintance and say, “I’ve got an extra ticket to a cool performance. Want to go with me?” Nominate a local business owner for a “Best of the City” award and let them know. Everyone will be grateful and delighted, and your relationships will grow stronger. Then, in the near future, if you need to ask for a special favor—like a personal introduction to the hiring manager at your dream company—your friends will be more than happy to oblige!

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: The Sun moves into Virgo on August 22nd. If you’re employed and you love your current job, this would be an excellent time to organize, organize, organize! Go through all of those unread emails and delete anything that’s unnecessary. Clear papers off your desk. Wipe the grime off your computer keyboard. Go through your calendar and ask yourself, “What could I subtract? What’s essential and what’s not?” With the Sun in Virgo, you’re likely to feel the urge to declutter, polish, and refine. Don’t fight that feeling—ride the wave! (If you haven’t already, read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. It will change your workspace, your office, and your life!)

If you’re employed but you’re not that “into” your current job, the same advice applies: organize, organize, organize. With the Sun in Virgo, it’s the ideal time to empty your inbox, sort through your paperwork, and finish up any lingering projects that you assured your boss you would complete. Your new motto can be, “Tie up loose ends.” This will put you in a good position to start hunting for a new job—feeling clear and free, not encumbered with guilt or broken promises.

As Heidi mentioned, Mercury goes retrograde on August 30th for about three weeks, lasting until September 22nd. This timeframe is not the best time to start an ambitious new project at work. It’s a time for reflection and completion rather than “launching.” If your company is planning to launch an exciting new initiative, or if you’re planning to unveil an exciting new direction, project, or idea, try to schedule the “launch date” for sometime after September 22nd when the planets will be “on your side.”

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: If you’re self-employed, and if you’re planning to “launch” something new—a new website, a new product, a new class or program—try to avoid launching it between August 30th and September 22nd. Because—as we’ve mentioned a couple times in this forecast—Mercury goes retrograde during that three-week timeframe, which means communication breakdowns, website crashes, phone calls being dropped, travel delays, and all kinds of other headaches.

This doesn’t mean that Mercury in retrograde is a “bad” thing. It’s actually a powerful time—if you direct your energy appropriately. Use this time to review, reflect, rehearse, and clean up your act in private—rather than publicly unveiling a new project.

As Heidi mentioned, on September 10th, the planet Saturn will square Neptune, which invites you to look at your dreams and come up with a plan that is reasonable, doable and effective. What’s something you really want to create during the upcoming year? A new book? A new product line? A new service that draws in dozens of new clients? Write down what you want—and then turn on your logical, analytical brain. Make a list of the exact steps that you need to take to make it happen. Go over your plan with a trusted friend or a career coach to see if there’s anything you might be overlooking.

If you’re worried that you’ll get distracted or lose momentum, take steps to avoid that! Find a buddy who can text you every day to encourage you and keep you on track. Or join an online goal-setting community filled with people who are working on their goals, right by your side. (I run a goal-setting community and coaching program called GO GET IT! which focuses on career, business, and income-related goals. Enrollment for the next session opens on September 20th. You can sign up here for a reminder email when it’s time to enroll.)

No matter what type of job or career you currently have—or currently want to have—the month of Virgo (late August to late September) is a great time to GET THINGS DONE.

You’re likely to feel the urge to organize, declutter, and tie up loose ends that might be irritating you or bogging you down. Ride the momentum!

Use this time to your best advantage. Just remember to wait until Mercury in retrograde is over (on September 22nd) before you “go public” with a new idea, project, or business venture.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

August 22nd – The Sun moves into Virgo for one month. (Clean up your desk, tie up loose ends, make lists, tick things off, and polish ideas until they gleam.)

August 30th – Venus moves into Libra. (Beauty, balance, and harmonious relationships—host parties, reach out to someone, grant favors, extend invitations, be a great friend!)

August 30th – Mercury goes retrograde for three weeks. (Not the best time to “launch” a new idea or project… instead, go inward, reflect, and rehearse in private.)

September 9th – Jupiter moves into Libra. (Tensions soften, hearts open, gracious communication becomes easier. Maybe Trump will say something kind and compassionate? Hey, anything’s possible!)

September 10th – Saturn squares Neptune. (No more wistful dreaming… it’s time for serious planning! Ask yourself, “What’s the most efficient, logical path forward?” Outline the steps and make it happen.)

September 22nd – Mercury in retrograde is over. (Now’s the time to officially “go public” with a new idea, project, or business venture. Hold the press conference. Hand in your two weeks notice and start your job hunt. Launch the website. Post a Facebook announcement. Alert the media. Full steam ahead!)

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THIS MONTH:

“Every blade of grass has its angel that bends over it and whispers, “Grow, grow.” —The Talmud

What are your angels whispering to you? Listen to your heart. Pay attention to moments where you feel a sense of longing, yearning, or even jealousy (“Oh, I wish I could have a career like that, that seems so cool…”) and tune in. It’s never too late to change course—dramatically or subtly—and create a career that feels meaningful and exciting.

No matter what is going on in the cosmos, ultimately, you are the master of your own destiny. You are in charge. Regardless of what’s going on around you, there is always a way to make progress with your goals and to create the life and career that you want.

Every door can be unlocked.

Have an amazing month!

Your Career Forecast: July / August 2016

Ellen Fondiler | Your Career Forecast for Cancer: July / August 2016

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Leo on July 22nd at 2:30am Pacific Time, bringing passion, warmth, generosity, self-expression, spontaneity, and play. Leo rules from July 22nd – August 18th, making this a fantastic time to tap into your inner lion or lioness. Be courageous. Take center-stage. Start an ambitious project. Don’t whisper—roar!

On July 30th, Mercury moves into the analytical sign of Virgo. This is an exceptionally powerful day because you’ve got Leo / Virgo energies working together—Leo: warmth, play, creation. Virgo: refinement, polishing, editing. If there was ever a day to dive into a project that requires creativity AND organization—rewriting your résumé, for example—this is it! With Mercury in Virgo, the only thing to watch out for is an overly critical “perfectionist” energy. Take a breath and think before you speak. Make sure that what you say—to yourself and others—is constructive, not snarky or nit-picky.

The very next day, July 31st, we have a lovely trine between Venus and Uranus. The theme for this day is: “unexpected and delightful surprises.” It’s a great day to ask, “What if?” and “Why not?” Your brainstorming powers will be amplified. Mention an unusual idea to your boss or colleagues on this day—you might notice that everyone is remarkably open-minded.

On August 1st—when the Sun trines Saturn—it’s time to make new plans, solidify old plans, and bring more structure to your goals and projects. Perhaps it’s time to build a spreadsheet to keep track of companies you’ve sent your résumé to, and when, and to whom, rather than trying to keep all the info inside your head! It’s also a great day for making major decisions. You may notice a strong feeling of determination and clarity.

August 2nd is another potent day. Mars moves into the optimistic sign of Sagittarius. Throughout June and July, we’ve been struggling across the globe with unprecedented levels of violence, terrorism, and reactivity. This shift into Sagittarius should help us move forward into a better future—a future imbued with more hope and less fear. Mars will stay in Sagittarius for about two months.

On August 5th, Venus joins Mercury in the sign of Virgo. You might feel the urge to tidy, spruce, organize, and “clean up your act” in a literal—or metaphorical—way. Does your workspace need some de-cluttering attention? Is it time to polish up your mission statement or manifesto? Time to review your finances and make a new budget? The Virgo theme of “refinement” continues.

On August 13th, Saturn—which has been retrograde—goes direct. If there’s a goal or project that you’ve been feeling hesitant about (“Too much work, too risky, too scary…”) you may notice that you feel differently today: more confident, mature, and authoritative. Ready to make it happen—for real.

Finally, on August 18th, we celebrate the full moon of Leo. Time to focus on individuality, self-expression and the potency and power of the generous heart. As the full moon rises on this night, ask yourself, “What am I here to give with all my heart?”

Do some meditation, talk a walk and ponder, or discuss that question with a few friends. Trust whatever answers come up for you.

What does all of this mean for your career? Let’s look closer…

JOB-HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As Heidi mentioned, the Sun moves into Leo on July 22nd. Leo is radiant, warm, and courageous. If you are job-hunting, this would be a terrific time to shake up your search by doing something bold and unexpected—something that allows your warmth and humanity to shine brightly. Instead of emailing your cover letter to your dream company, email your cover letter AND send along a “video cover letter” so that they can hear your voice and see your smiling face. Ask yourself, “What would a brave lion do?” and do that. Don’t do what’s expected. Go above and beyond.

On August 5th when Mercury (the planet of the mind) moves into Virgo (the sign of organization) it’s time to plan, tidy, and organize to the max. If you are job-hunting, this would be the perfect day to hole up at your favorite coffee shop and polish up your résumé, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, and social media profiles. Even if they’re already pretty great, there’s always room for improvement! (Download my workbooks on résumé and cover letter writing for specific tips.) Also, on August 5th: Google yourself. Does anything pop up that’s out of date, inaccurate, or unflattering? Spruce away!

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As Heidi pointed out, on August 2nd, the planet Mars (the planet of action) moves into Sagittarius (The planet of optimism and vision). Action + optimism = a powerful combination! If you’re already employed, and you love your job, this is a great time to meet with your colleagues, set new goals, and create a beautiful vision for the future.

Sagittarius is an adventurous sign (Sagittarians love travel and novelty!) so if you’re meeting with your team, don’t do it at the office—go somewhere new. Hold a meeting at a nearby park, a cool restaurant, or a retreat center. Plant yourselves in a new setting to unlock fresh ideas.

If you’re employed, but you’re not that “into” your current job, you’re in luck—August is a terrific month to brainstorm new job possibilities and make decisions about your future.

August 1st, in particular, is a great day to make major decisions. Use this day to write a resignation letter (even if you don’t feel ready to submit it to your boss just yet), or hire a career coach, or purchase the domain name for your first website, or make some other “big move.” You’ll feel exceptionally clear and confident on this day—use those emotions to your advantage!

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: On August 13th, Saturn (the task-master planet) turns direct. If you’ve been feeling sluggish or unfocused with your business lately, or if you are wondering about your next steps, Saturn’s energy will help you to “pick up the pace.” As Heidi mentioned, August 13th is a “make it happen” type of day. Take a cue from business consultant Melissa Cassera and try the “batching” productivity technique: block out a big chunk of time (like 4 – 6 hours), gather your work materials, choose one type of project (like writing a whole bunch of blog posts, or doing all of your invoicing for the month, or clearing your email inbox), and then… dive in! Complete your work in a big “batch” (like baking three dozen cookies at once) rather than multi-tasking or frittering from one thing to another. You might be shocked by how much you’re able to get done.

And finally, Aug 18th brings a Leo full moon. As Heidi noted, it’s a great night to ask yourself, “What am I here to give with all my heart?”

If you run your own business, are you truly “giving your all”—or have you been holding back? Do you treat your customers with warmth and generosity—or are you doing the “bare minimum” that’s expected of you? How could you serve your audience at an even higher level? Explore these questions and—without being too hard on yourself—look for ways to improve.

On the night of the full moon, spend some time filling cup of inspiration to the brim. Watch TED Talks delivered by entrepreneurs you admire. Watch your favorite music videos on YouTube. Listen to podcasts featuring interesting business owners—Entrepreneur on Fire is a great one. Surround yourself with examples of “role models” who are running their businesses with heart, warmth, and generosity and remind yourself, “I can absolutely do that, too.”

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

July 22nd – The Sun moves into Leo (tap into your inner lion—lead, be bold, roar!)

July 30th – Mercury moves into Virgo (watch out for that highly-critical “perfectionist” energy—be kind to yourself and others)

July 31st – Venus trines Uranus (a day of unexpected surprises—ask, “What if?”)

August 1st – Sun trines Saturn (make plans, create structure, great day for making big decisions)

August 2nd – Mars moves into Sagittarius (a new wave of hope and optimism)

August 5th – Venus moves into Virgo (tidy, spruce, organize, clean up your act)

August 13th – Saturn goes direct (set those hesitations aside—make it happen!)

August 18th – Full moon of Leo (ask, “What am I here to give with all my heart?”)

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THIS MONTH:

When the poet Mary Oliver’s long-term partner died, she said:

“I decided I would do one of two things when she died. I would buy a little cabin in the woods and go inside with all my books and shut the door. Or I would unlock all the doors… and see who I could meet in the world. And that’s what I did. I haven’t locked the door for five years. I have wonderful new friends.”

Leo is a perfect time to open all the doors of your life and let the world in.

Be courageous. Be daring. Be open to experiences that feel new and different.

And remember: no matter what’s going on in the cosmos, ultimately, you are the master of your own destiny. You are always in charge—and even when conditions aren’t “perfect,” you can still choose to focus, apply yourself, and make big things happen.

OVERVIEW

What’s going on this month…

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Cancer on June 20th, 2016 at 3:34pm Pacific Time.

Cancer is a sign of great care and compassion. The month of Cancer is a time of nourishment, nesting and re-building—a powerful “gestation time.” After the flurry of Gemini, Cancer is a time for quiet productivity, and for feeling things fully and deeply. Wrap your arms around what you love most. Don’t be afraid to feel your feelings, even if they seem unusually intense. Emotions are your friend—and your source of power—during the time of Cancer.

On June 29th, the planet Mercury also moves into Cancer. Again, decisions will be driven by emotions and intuition rather than pure logic. During this time, let yourself “feel” your way forward rather than relying on a linear, tick-all-the-boxes approach.

That same day, June 29th, the planet Mars (which has been retrograde) goes direct. If you’ve been feeling stalled or stuck, Mars can unglue things and get projects moving forward again. This is a time for focused action. Your invitation: become a warrior for what matters most. Right foot. Left foot. Forward. March!

July 4th brings a New Moon in Cancer, which is always a potent time for making new wishes and planting new seeds. What do you want to bring forth? What needs to be born? What do you want to tend to and nourish? This is a day to invest in your future—to plant the seeds that will nourish you in the weeks and months to come.

Also, pay attention on July 11th when Venus moves into Leo—and then two days later, on July 13th, Mercury also moves into this fiery sign. This is a time of courageous self-expression. Whatever you’ve been brewing on and quietly building during the first couple weeks of Cancer now has an opportunity to be creatively expressed. Leo is also a great sign of leadership. Dare to take the spotlight!

On July 16th—when Mercury and Venus sit in the same degree of Leo—there’s an air of enhanced eloquence and leadership. Communication during this time has tremendous magnetism. (Podcast recording, open mic night, or TEDx Talk, anyone?)

Finally, the Full Moon of Cancer lands on July 19th, in the sign of Capricorn. It’s a very potent time to turn within, assess the past weeks, and celebrate your achievements—both personal and professional. Take a few moments to bask in the full moon light. On the night of the Full Moon, imagine yourself as a lighted house, ready to open your windows and doors to friends and allies, willing to beam your light to all who need it most.

JOB-HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As Heidi mentioned, Cancer is a time when emotions reign supreme—it’s all about feelings, feelings, feelings!

If you send out your résumé—but don’t get an enthusiastic response—the disappointment might feel especially intense during this month. Be aware of that and try to be extra-compassionate with yourself.

But don’t use Cancer-time as an excuse to just wallow and mope all month long. Instead, try use your feelings as “fuel” to create what you want.

For example, if you’re feeling frustrated because you’ve sent your cover letter and résumé to a dozen companies and not one single place has responded, then allow yourself to really feel that frustration! Let that frustration motivate you to improve your job-hunting materials, to find a mentor, or hire a coach, to network more vigorously, and really kick things up a notch. As Heidi pointed out, this is a time when your feelings (both positive and negative) can be a source of great power and productivity.

Heidi also mentioned that on June 29th, the planet Mars (which has been retrograde) goes direct. Think of this like a cosmic light switch flipping from “off” to “on.” Things have been somewhat quiet for a few weeks (maybe you’ve been cruising the Internet and working quietly in your darkened bedroom on your laptop), but now, bam! Quiet time is over. Lights are back on. No more stalling. It’s time to get out of the house and take action in a more “public” way.

If you are job-hunting, this means that—starting around June 29th—you might feel a surge of fresh energy. Ride that wave of energy and connect, connect, connect! Reach out to old colleagues to see how they’re doing and where they are working. Find new contacts on LinkedIn. Go on sites like The Muse, read about interesting companies, and make a list of places you’d like to learn more about.

In Greek mythology, Mars is the God of war. At the end of June, imagine yourself like a warrior marching towards victory. Choose your battle plan and march, march, march.

In my coaching program—GO GET IT!—we continually reinforce the importance of taking small steps, every day, for multiple weeks in a row. That’s how real progress gets made. Every email you send, every lunch date that you set up, every conversation with your career coach or mentor or social media contacts—all of those actions add up and propel your job hunt forward.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: If you’re employed and you love your current job, June / July would be an excellent time to step into more of a leadership role.

This doesn’t always mean going after a promotion, although it certainly could! There are many ways to establish yourself as a “leader” in the workplace, regardless of your current job title. You could ask your boss to entrust you with a high-profile project and more responsibility. You could spearhead a campaign to recruit more women into your male-dominated department. You could volunteer to lead an important meeting—or to mentor a new hire or intern. Step up to the plate. Seize initiative. Lead on! With both Venus and Mercury in Leo, your communication skills will be enhanced. Plus with the sun in Cancer, you’ll be able to communicate with extra empathy and compassion.

If you’re employed but you’re not that “into” your current job, the Cancer Full Moon on July 19th is an ideal moment to turn within, reflect, assess, and figure out your next steps. This could be the perfect time to sign up for a workshop or conference that will expose you to new ideas, new people, new companies—all kinds of fresh career possibilities that you hadn’t considered. Check out Wisdom 2.0, 99U and the World Domination Summit. Or if you are itching to do something creative—like write a book—sign up for one of Alex Franzen’s workshops. The beauty of attending a workshop or conference is that you never know who you’re going to meet. You might be sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with your new best friend, or your next colleague or boss!

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: The New Moon in Cancer happens on July 4th—which is perfect timing for those of us based here in the United States. July 4th is typically a day we spend with family and friends, celebrating our hard-fought freedoms and the joy of being together (this is Cancer at its best!)

New Moons are all about “planting seeds” for the future. On July 4th, gather with friends and talk about your dreams and wishes for the coming months. If you’re eager to get more clients, say so. If you’re ready to expand your business team and hire a fabulous assistant, say so. Plant little “seeds” in people’s minds so that they’re thinking about you in the months to come. Who knows? One of your closest friends might have an idea—or connection, or referral—that allows your New Moon wish to come true.

Also, since it’s a New Moon on the 4th, the sky will be completely dark. The fireworks will be amazing! Enjoy!

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

June 20th – The Sun moves into Cancer (introspection, quiet productivity, intense feelings and emotions)

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THIS MONTH:

“It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.” —Muhammed Ali

If there is a metaphorical “pebble in your shoe” this month—something that is irritating you, frustrating you, or weighing you down—be honest with yourself (“This sucks!”) and then do something to change the situation.

You’ve got big work ahead—you can’t afford to be bogged down by pebbles pricking your feet! Let your emotions be like a piercing, bright light of truth. Let your emotions motivate you to clean up old messes, make positive changes, and really put forth your best effort. That’s the power of Cancer. Use it to your advantage.

Remember: no matter what is going on in the cosmos, ultimately, you are the master of your own destiny. You are always in charge. There is always a way to make progress with your goals and to create the life and career that you want.

Every door can be unlocked.

Have an amazing month!

Your Career Forecast: May / June 2016

Ellen Fondiler | Your Career Forecast for Gemini: May - June 2016

I work as a career and business strategist. But my secret passion is… astrology!

Once a month, starting this month, I’ll post an overview of what’s happening in the cosmos and how it might influence your career.

HEIDI: The Sun moves into Gemini on May 20th, 2016. We are moving into a time of great connectivity! This is a time to build relationships and embrace networking.

Gemini rules communication: what we think, speak and write. This is the time get your message out! Gemini is a masculine sign and one of great flexibility and movement. With the Sun in Gemini, you’ll do what it takes—even if it means spinning 10 plates simultaneously—to build the bridges you need to build.

Also, Mercury goes direct on May 22nd. Mercury is retrograde through the first 3 weeks of May but on the 22nd, the energy begins to move outward and forward again. When Mercury is retrograde, we review the past 4 months. When it goes direct, we act upon what we have learned. We make plans, talk about them and execute them. Dust yourself off: it’s action time!

Mars will shift into Scorpio on May 27th. This brings intensity and tenacity. When Mars is in Scorpio, we have to be careful of reactivity and aggression, but it also provides great strength and conviction. We dive in and commit with Mars in Scorpio. We see the battle through.

Finally, there’s a New Moon on June 4th! The New Moon time is the moment to plant seeds, begin new endeavors and cultivate new thoughts. It will give you a breath of springtime optimism and potential.

When you work harmoniously with these energies, much beauty and goodness can transpire. Enjoy the dance!

JOB-HUNTING?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: As Heidi mentioned, the Sun is moving into Gemini on May 20th, which means if you are job-hunting, this is a terrific time to reach out to people in your network (friends, family, colleagues, etc.) and make a clear declaration that you’re looking for a new job. This is not the time to be secretive and shy. Speak up. Don’t hold back!

Reach out to your LinkedIn contacts. Set up coffee dates. Swing by a neighbor’s dinner party—or throw a party yourself. Send emails to teachers, mentors, acquaintances, anyone who might be able to open doors for you. (Don’t know how to write a memorable email? Use Alexandra Franzen’s Feel. Know. Do. technique. It’s a game changer.)

Bottom line: make sure everyone in your community knows what type of position you’re seeking. Nurture your existing relationships and work your connections. You just never know: your yoga teacher’s husband’s sister might be the hiring manager at your dream company! Start spreading the word about your job hunt, tell everyone about it, and see where it leads.

ALREADY HAVE A JOB?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: If you love your current job, this would be an excellent time review all of the projects on your desk and get organized for the next 3-4 months. Round up your team. Review the plan. Get everyone on the same page. As Heidi said, Gemini is all about communication—so this is a good time to write a company-wide manifesto, if you don’t already have one, and/or review responsibilities to make sure everyone clearly understands their role in the department.

If you’re employed but you’re not that “into” your current job, great news: when Mercury goes direct on May 22nd, any “action” that you take to step into the next chapter of your career will be multiplied and enhanced. Take those “Should I do something different?” thoughts that have been ruminating inside your brain and start making things happen! Start that new project, blog, or side-business that you’ve been thinking about. At the very least, take one baby step forward. With the New Moon on June 4th, this is absolutely the time to plant new seeds and see what grows.

SELF-EMPLOYED OR RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Here’s what you need to know…

ELLEN: Remember when Heidi said that Mars shifts into Scorpio on May 27th? This creates a time of heightened aggression and intensity. You might find yourself feeling unusually hot-tempered and reactive. Watch yourself! If a client is late paying an invoice, if an employee shows up late for a shift, or if a customer makes an annoying request, resist the urge to lash out.

Instead, try to channel all that extra “heat” into your business projects and goals—or burn it off with a few extra workouts at the gym—rather that letting the intensity boil over in unproductive ways. Think before acting—and pick your battles.

IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

May 20th – The Sun Moves into Gemini (great time for connecting and networking)
May 22nd – Mercury goes direct (boom! action time!)
May 27th – Mars moves into Scorpio (heat, intensity, conviction)
June 4th – New Moon in Gemini (plant new seeds, make new wishes)

YOUR CAREER MANTRA FOR THIS MONTH:

“People say, ‘What is the sense of our small effort?’ They cannot see that we must lay one brick at a time. Take one step at a time.” —Dorothy Day
